Shinigami
Name: Darkoda, Shin (Last, First)
Gender: Male
Age: 275
Division: 2: Special Forces
Rank: 5th Seat
Physical Description:
Shin has the same appearance he had since the moment he died; that of an eighteen year old, dark skinned boy. His impressive height of 6"2 and thin body structure make him appear a lot weaker than he really is. His eyes always attract the most attention due to their red colour, with a cat-like iris resembling a fox's eyes. He is always seen wearing a pair of dark blue, rectangular sunglasses with smooth edges, to both hide his eyes and because of his slight sensitivity to bright lights. His hair is like the picture except like already stated, more of a dark purple, and the back stretches down to his neck. He always wears the trademark shinigami robes, with his Zanpakuto hanging from the left side of his waist, black gloves with green fingers, and a black headband across his forehead. Shin keeps about fifteen small 'modified' throwing daggers hidden within his uniform, along with a medicine that stops bleeding, and some wide acting antidote pills for various non-reiatsu based poisons. He has a dark purple reiatsu, which takes the outline of a fox.
Personality: Shin is a generally shy and quiet person, and will not start a conversation unless he has to, or he has grown comfortable around a person. He is very sarcastic, and quick to respond to an insult with one of his own, no matter who the person may be. This combined with his dislike of arrogant people quickly earned him the reputation of a cold person. Shin also has a sadistic streak, and takes great pleasure in inflicting pain, physical or mental, on anyone who annoys him. Shin is a very analytical person, and prefers not to pass judgment on any situation until he is fairly certain that he is correct, and even then, rarely shares his views on anything, unless absolutely necessary to seek a second opinion that he cannot gain from his zanpakuto spirit (at least until Kumori loosens him up a bit).
Even though Shin appears cold, and truly is slightly sadistic, he has his own set of morals. He is not one to allow someone to be bullied and will generally give someone a fair chance, whether in a direct battle or in general life, although he has no qualms about losing all pretence of fair play if his opponent will not fight fairly either, and will not hesitate to assassinate someone if he believes it to be necessary. Of course, one needs to consider what exactly falls under fair play to Shin. His definition is quite loose. It's also questionable whether or not Shin defines 'necessary' as 'if he feels like it.' He feels like it often, and is capable of being quite ruthless at times if he is aiming to kill.
The only trait that irritates Shin more than arrogance is stupidity. Shin cannot stand incredibly stupid or thick-headed people. Considering that he spent his childhood battling mobs of them, this isn't surprising. It also isn't surprising that Shin does not get along with Division 11, Soul Society biggest concentration of idiots. Shin likens the division to a gathering of thugs, ogres, idiots, numb-skulls... you get the point. Generally in a fight with anyone fitting the description, Shin will spend half his time insulting them, and taking full advantage of his natural speed to dance around the idiot, before probably beating him to the ground with his bare hands.
Shin's opinion of hollows isn't much different than his treatment of anyone he dislikes. The mindless ones he sees as nothing more than bugs to practice speed killing on, but if a hollow shows actual intelligence, and doesn't manage to annoy him, he will actually enjoy the fight for the sport in it/ to inflict pain (you would think he would get along with 11th Division more seeing as he actually likes to fight) and if the hollow manages to avoid its death, he is somewhat unlikely to execute it unless under direct orders. Needless to say, he's pretty much indifferent to the war.
On a lighter note, Shin generally prefers meats and bread to any other food. That said, Shin possesses the kind of appetite capable of taking out a few restaurants. How he manages to eat so much yet doesn't gain any weight is quite a mystery. He does not like vegetables but will eat them if the taste is sufficiently masked. Shin also has an obsession with chocolate and has a secret stash of many chocolate treats that he gathers to satisfy his cravings, and despises anything bitter or sour, with the exception of dark chocolate. He spends a bit of his free time reading many novels and manga spanning multiple genres as long as he finds it interesting. He is also proud of his high natural speed, and can be found racing around Sierietei, practicing his Shunpo to become the fastest person in existence. This obsession with speed is reflected within his fighting style, a combination of hand to hand combat, excessive use of shunpo combined with constant solidifying of spiritions to form temporary walls to launch from and boost his speed, while confusing his opponent, and his tendency to wield his zanpakuto with one hand, trading the power of a two-handed swing for greater speed and flexibility, with a healthy dose of incantation bypassing kido to deal with his obvious long range weakness. And because kido is fun to mess around with. He also insists on writing all of his reports in red ink, because it's his favorite colour and makes paranoid people think its a reflection of a desire for blood or something equally dark. Considering that almost everyone in Division 2 is paranoid...... did I mention that Shin has a dark, somewhat inappropriate sense of humor?
Shin has a deep rooted fear of weakness. No matter what, he will do anything to not be considered weak by anyone, and will react badly to any person who calls him anything resembling weak. When faced with an opponent who is clearly stronger than him, Shin's resolve will falter and his fighting skill will decline as a result. To counteract this, Shin tends to avoid direct clashes in a fight, preferring to dodge and counter-attack. He keeps this insecurity firmly locked behind his cold mask, hidden from all but his zanpakuto spirit, only on the grounds that she can read his mind. This fear, combined with him being in near constant pain throughout life and death has given him an insane tolerance for pain. Most wounds like would get people moaning in pain doesn't even register with Shin, leading to his underestimation of his own injuries.
Despite how he appears to the world, Shin is still a teenager at heart. A very intelligent teenager, but still somewhat immature, he will often ignore a superior's rank because it's too much trouble to say all of the titles, and within his mind, frequently attaches his own nicknames to describe people instead of referring to them by name. Shin is also, slightly reckless in or out of battle , perfectly willing to use kido he hasn't fully mastered in a fight, or to ignore general safety to satisfy his curiosity on a certain poison. Well, that might be because he just wanted to poison someone...
Most people are unaware of Shin's true level of intelligence due to his natural shyness, but Shin is fully capable of understanding exactly what 12th Division members are talking about during their seminars, and frequents their labs to observe what new gadgets they have created, just out of sheer curiosity. While Shin isn't much for strategy, he is an expert in tactics and can easily use what he has available to him to create a plan on the spot to take out his opponent. He is always curious about the workings of something he believes to be interesting, curious enough to actually make him ask someone if he is incapable of learning about it himself. Shin has quite the odd collection of daggers, darts, gadgets and herbs in his quarters and some of them hidden on him; all the result of something that drew his attention. This curiosity is also the direct cause of Shin getting himself poisoned with nearly every poison within Seretei, to the point that he keeps antidote pills for every type of poison except reiatsu based versions on him. Shin sees the whole experience as a plus though, he did gain some healing kido lessons during his little visits to the infirmary, enough to at least turn a broken bone into something manageable enough to work with until a real healer can get to it; a few cracks in a bone isn't going to stop him from using the limb.
Shin is a cold, cynical, insecure shell that houses a somewhat destructive teenager, and his shell is slowly breaking, from the combination of finding a place where he actually fits in, and his zanpakuto spirit's not so gentle prodding. That doesn't change the fact that the only visible emotions he will ever show are his indifferent look, the smirk, and maybe some anger.
History:
Shin grew up in a small town, as a child very intelligent for his age. Shin spent his younger years attending private schools, and with only his mother and grandmother for company at home he never really had much interaction with other children. Thus, when he entered Secondary school, he was in for a rude awakening when he saw how other people could really be. He entered at the age of nine, short and thin, with freaky eyes, and thus immediately became the target for all the bullies in his year. After his first day, Shin learnt an important lesson; to survive, he had to become strong.
Shin convinced his mother to allow him to attend a karate course. His refusal to be weak anymore kept driving him on, but one does not become an expert in a day. Shin spent his first year of school being constantly bullied in school and deemed the weakest person in the school. This treatment was the direct cause of Shin's inferiority complex, and his knowledge that he was simply trying to overcompensate for a weakness that was due to age only irritated him more. Shin increased his training over the summer break and by the second year, Shin was still fairly short, but much stronger.
His second year began with a fight just like the first, but this time, Shin emerged the victor. However, the next day Shin learnt another lesson the hard way; bullies are cowards. The guy he beat up yesterday simply came back with an entire gang and beast Shin until he could barely stand. The thought of losing when he finally became strong infuriated Shin, and in his mental and physical anguish he lost the only thing he managed to hold on to the past year; his sense of morals. Without his morals holding him back, Shin had no problems fighting the gang again by using a weapon this time, in the form of a chair. Despite what he thought, Shin was actually fairly strong and he ended up severely beating the entire gang to the point that some of them needed medical care. Through all this, Shin felt nothing but pleasure at finally getting revenge for what he suffered through his first year, especially when he got away with his actions, since none of the bullies were willing to admit that they lost to him. Expecting retaliation this time, Shin kept up his karate practice, and didn't stray far away from either a teacher or a weapon. During this time, Shin also learnt the value of speed. It was much easier evading a gang when you could outrun them and the fear of what would happen if they caught up gave him that extra boost. His improved endurance from the karate practice didn't hurt either.
During the middle of Shin's third year, he underwent a growth spurt, and suddenly the 5"7 kid became a 6"0 teenager, with a black belt in karate behind him. The years of constant running and fighting cost Shin his trust in people however, and coupled with his natural shyness, resulted in him spending the rest of his school life alone, but Shin then decided that he very happy alone, since the only people he could trust were himself and his family. His intelligence ensured that he graduated at the top of his class, and he entered university at the age of seventeen.
His life came to an abrupt end in his second year at university. Seeing a child being accosted by two teenagers, he immediately ran to his aid remembering his own childhood experiences. These teenagers weren't the typical bullies however, they were two recruits of a gang in the middle of their initiation ceremony along with a hidden senior member, and Shin was busy fighting the two recruits, he had no problem stepping out of his hiding place and stabbing Shin in the back, through his lung. In an amazing show of will, Shin managed to pull out the knife and stab the gang member back through the chest, but he soon after succumbed to his injury.
Shin woke up hovering in the alley he died in, full of anger at losing, but slightly relieved that at least the child was fine. The relief shifted into rage wen he noticed that the guy who stabbed him was right there beside him, but just as he was about to take out his rage, a sword hilt suddenly flew through the air and hit the gangster on the forehead. Shin watched in shock as a large gateway suddenly appeared, and dragged the screaming gangster right into it then just as suddenly vanished. He turned to look at the wielder of the sword and was stunned to see a woman in a black gi staring right back at him. The shock quickly faded, and he immediately began questioning the woman on everything to what happened to the other guy, to who she was and what was to happen to him. Before she sent him to soul society, she explained to him about all about shinigami, and warned him to move towards a place called Seretei.
Shin woke up in a run-down town, and the first thing he noted was that he could no longer remember his last name, even though he remembered everything else. He dismissed this as minor and made up his own last name, then moved on the second point on his mental checklist; he felt hunger. Knowing what his hunger meant from the shinigami, he first set out to find someone who didn't look like a murderer to tell him where he was, and eventually found out that he was in the 80th District. Of course at this point he immediately started headed towards Seretei, ignoring the minor problem that he didn’t really know which way he was going.
His journey got off to a rocky start; when he eventually got his bearings, his travels came to a halt when he stumbled upon a bandit. The man was clearly injured from a previous fight, but he had a sword with him, and Shin looked like an easy target. He quickly learnt that Shin was not as vulnerable as he appeared when he promptly moved out of the way of his blade, which ended up embedding itself into the tree behind him. As he attempted to pull it out, his actions came to an end when Shin kicked him right in his groin. Repeatedly. When the thief fell over unconscious, Shin took his new sword then tested out it’s sharpness on the thief’s skull.
The next meaningful experience was when he passed through District 60, which looked like it had just gone through a war. The area was littered with dead bodies and gravestones, with the few villagers remaining looking more depressed than was normal for Rukongai. Shin eventually managed to find out that there was a clan protecting the districts around here from the bandits and murderers, but they all banded together to wipe them out.
Shin's academy experience was school all over again, except with the lack of bullies. Shin's shyness and and distrust of everyone made him a loner once again, which didn't bother him at all. His main concern was to get rid of his inferiority complex, which he decided on the entirely wrong way; by overcompensating. He aimed to become a captain, to be the strongest possible and to that end he was relentless at his sword training, mixing kendo with his martial arts knowledge to become one of the top 10 in his year. Most of the recruits were in awe of him, and the noble recruits who had kendo training before were immediately jealous of the upstart commoner that was outdoing them. They threw insults and he returned them just as quickly, having no problems with a verbal spar, in fact he welcomed it to keep his mind sharp.
No matter how much he denied it, Shin felt loneliness, and he did want someone to call a friend. During his second year, after struggling to learn kido and being assaulted by both his complex and his loneliness, he found something odd in his bed that was not there when he left in the morning. Somehow, a small purple fox managed to get in there and was quite comfortable sleeping on his pillow. Shin was too tired to bother getting rid of it and simply slept on the other side of the bed, not caring if the fox woke up and bit him. The next day, he woke up to the fox sleeping on his stomach, and since then, it kept following him around, hitching a ride on his shoulder, and Shin felt his loneliness fading.
The fox never ate anything and adamantly refused to respond to any name except "fox." Shin got curious about it but started to become suspicious in his fourth year, when among the better students in kendo and lethal in kido, with a minor grasp of shunpo as a bonus, he started trying to communicate with his zanpakuto. Every time he fell asleep, he dreamt of nothing but the shadow of a tall woman, who told him that she was right by him, and he always woke up immediately after to see the fox staring at him. After three nights of this, he finally stated the obvious, that the fox was his zanpakuto. It certainly explained its ability to appear out of nowhere and intelligence. At this, this fox simply laughed and told Shin that he would find out its name when he needs it. Also stop calling her it, she's female.
Shin easily finished his training at the academy with his spirit offering him advice, and eventually learnt her name, Kumori, during his graduation exam. He was accepted into Division 2, and used his shinigami status to get two items from Division 12; his sunglasses and a headband, designed to leech off reiatsu from its wearer. Shin had simple reasoning for the headband. If he trains at his normal level with his reiatsu cut in half, his power would grow even faster; essentially the shinigami equivalent of weight training. Kumori saw nothing wrong with his reasoning and with his unorthodox training method, he quickly climbed in the ranks, using the band for training and to hide his full power, until he became powerful enough even with the band to become a 4th seat, but the rank already being preoccupied and Shin's unwillingness to pick a fight over anything under vice-captaincy (and a lack of desire to do more paperwork) made him settle for 5th seat.
Additional Info:
Even though Shin's true reiatsu without the band is practically at a (weak) vice-captain's level (i.e:a third seat will probably lose to him), he does not wish to become a vice-captain because because he doesn’t believe himself capable of handling the responsibility yet. This will not stop him from using his full power against an opponent if it’s necessary though.
Shin isn’t exactly a zanjutsu expert – he’s actually fairly poor at it considering his strength, a 3rd seat can take him in a pure sword fight. He is best at hakudo; as a 2nd division member, he was trained in it, but his own skill in the art is definitely at a vice-captain’s level.
Shin’s real speciality is in his speed; he is incredibly fast even without a properly mastered shunpo, capable of keeping up with people at his level who have perfected the skill, and the sheer speed he can attack with is quite frightening.
General
Name: Kumori
Spirit Description:
The hair, fur and eyes are a dark purple, so dark it looks almost black. For the robe colour, reverse the dark blue and the white sections of the robe, then turn the white parts blue. She wears a long dark green scarf, that stretches down to right above her rear. The haori has a cut in the back at the bottom for her tail to swing around. She is also wearing a divided hakama under the robe with the same colour scheme as the robe. She wears no shoes, and can lengthen her nails into claws at will. She also sports slightly elongated canines, and all of her molars are slightly pointed, like a carnivore's teeth. Her appearance, however, is an illusion. If she gets annoyed, or just feels like it, she will take on her true appearance. Her true form is the same as before except her hair and fur are a light green (see the picture), and her eyes turn gold, and her clothes are the same colour scheme in the picture. She can turn herself into a small purple fox, and frequently manifests herself in this form. Just like her human appearance, her real fox form the same green fur.
Kumori is generally playful and intelligent, constantly offering advice to Shin and sometimes just lending an ear while he discusses his problems. She acts like an older sister to him, always looking out for him, but has no problems teasing him. A lot. Seriously they act like either siblings or two preteens with a crush on each other depending on who you ask. Despite her appearance, she is still a demon, and acts the part. Her sadistic streak runs much deeper than Shin's, most frequently seen in her 'training sessions' with him, where she takes the opportunity to inflict far more pain than is necessary. She is a pure carnivore, and prefers her meat raw, even better if she just killed whatever the meat came from. Kumori is a very dark demon when dealing with someone she doesn't care about. When she materialises herself and encounters someone that she can get away with killing, she likes to 'play' with them a bit, before eventually probably eating them. She is incredibly indifferent to the well being of other people, the only exception to this being Shin himself, which according to her is the first time she's felt attachment to anyone. She has some fox traits, mainly in the sounds she makes when feeling certain emotions, such as anger and happiness, and her reliance on her very good senses of hearing and smell to detect people around her. Her sense of smell in particular is very strong, capable of detecting a person's unique scent and pheromones.
She is also currently keeping a few secrets about Shin's shikai because she doesn't believe he has any need to know right now. She also refuses to allow him to take his bankai test until he gains a captain level reiatsu for her own reasons. The truth though is that she just doesn't want to kill him right now, although she doesn't understand why she cares about his life so much herself. Kumori also claims to be among the most lethal of the darkness based zanpakutos although Shin is fairly certain that's just her ego talking.
Kumori's world is split into two regions. The outer layer is an endless sea upon a clear moonlit night, with countless marble pillars rising from the water. The true inner world, within the moon's reflection is a grassy plain, with a large river dividing the plain from a mountainous region that stretches to the clouds. The plain itself has numerous odd, bell shaped blue flowers growing in it, that release small orbs of light, and some trees scattered about, all under a perpetual full moon, with some white wisps of clouds floating along the starlit sky. Reference picture
Sealed: In her sealed state, Kumori looks like any average zanpakuto, except slightly shorter than usual, like a short sword. The length of the entire sword blade is one foot long.
Shikai
Activation Phrase: Embrace the darkness, Kumori.
Appearance: The hilt guard changes to resemble a yin-yang symbol. The blade itself turns black with a white line along the sharp edge, and a black fox tail grows from the hilt of the blade. For reference, look at the assassin's sword and adjust it with the description given.
Abilities:
Shin’s reflexes are significantly enhanced, allowing him a much faster reaction time.
Kumori Enkou - Shin can engulf Kumori's blade with gray-black ‘flames’ that will incinerate anything without reiatsu, and drain the reiatsu of anyone or anything it comes in contact with. It works by corroding the bindings of the spirit particles, and the loosened reiatsu is then consumed by the dark energy and used to fuel it, keeping the flame going unless drowned out by a focused amount of reiatsu. The flames drain a certain percentage of reiatsu of the target on contact with a part of their body (2% arm or leg, 1% for head, 3% for chest or torso). Shin is capable of firing waves of dark energy at a 6 meter range around his zanpakuto.
Note: Even though it looks like fire, the zanpakuto is shadow based. Contact with the dark energy or the sword will feel like your body is being burnt away by something highly corrosive, as the bindings of your reiatsu are literally corroded away and used to fuel the energy. Note that it doesn’t do any physical damage to one’s body outside of the pain. Shin is immune to his zanpakuto's own effects.
NB: Anything reiatsu based on or in Shin that isn't his own reiatsu will get corroded by Kumori while released, as the corrosive energy flows through the entire zanpakuto, and anything in contact with it.
Example: If someone tries to heal him with kido or a reiatsu based drug, it won’t work. If Shin has some item 12th Division made that has reiatsu powered parts in it, it will break unless specifically modified to resist Shin’s reiatsu. Also, Kumori corroding anything from within him isn’t a pleasant feeling at all. Note that hado deal damage far too quickly for Kumori to have any effect, unless Shin actively blocks with the zanpakuto itself.
Kumori Katsu (Shadow Divide) – Shin focuses the shikai’s dark energy into his blade, then fires it out in a concentrated energy wave. An unguarded hit from this attack will inflict a deep gash on someone of equal power, and drain about 6% of their reiatsu. (4% per shot)
Bankai Kumori Boukon
Activation Phrase: Bankai.
Appearance:
At the bottom, his footwear disappears, and his haori becomes tighter like a pair of jeans, with purple streaks resembling fire across the material. The upper robe gets replaced by a black sleeveless T-shirt, covered by an unbuttoned black duster with the same purple flame pattern. The inside of the duster is completely black. He wears the same gloves (with the fingers removed) and glasses he normally wears, his canine teeth slightly elongate to give the appearance of fangs, and he grows razor sharp claws on his fingers and toes to match the fangs. Finally, Shin’s ears elongate, resembling a fox’s, covered in black fur, and he grows a tail with the appearance and ratio to his body (i.e longer than him) of Kumori's, except that the tail is made of the same dark flames he produces. Said flames are now completely black, with a purple core.
Abilities:
The enhanced senses from his shikai.
Gouka – The improved version of Kumori Enkou, Shin is capable of creating the dark energy on any part of his body now, and solidifying it to act as a shield against other zanpakuto, or to enhance his strikes. Of course he can still launch the energy in plumes of ‘flame’. The range has been extended to 10 meters.
Hakubo Katsu (Twilight Divide) - Komurikatsu's bankai version. Due to the lack of a zanpakuto, appears like an energy claw. (4% cost.)
Tobihi (Leaping Flames) – Shin can create orbs of solidified dark energy, of 3-inch diameter, that he then shoots at a target. The orbs themselves fly at the same speed as a bala, and have slightly more force, but also drain 1% of the target’s reiatsu on contact. Costs about double a bala to create.
Shokujin (Maximum Eclipse) – Shin gathers energy within himself for about 5 seconds, and releases it in an explosion, engulfing anything within a 25 meter radius of himself in a sphere of darkness. It inflicts double the damage of a cero, but the real power is in the draining; the attack will siphon 15% of the reiatsu of anyone caught in the full blast. (10% cost)
Choushinsei (Supernova) – Shin gathers energy in his hand for a second, then ignites the reiatsu in the air, which rapidly follows a path to the targeted area and engulfs the entire area in a pillar of dark energy. The attack has a 5 meter radius from the centre of the blast, and will deal damage equal to a level 50 hado, along with draining 5% of the target’s reiatsu. Note that it is impossible to detect if the explosion is even coming, for less where it’s going to explode, unless one is reasonably good at sensing reiatsu. (3% cost)
4 - Byakurai (White Lightning) - The user fires a concentrated, powerful lightning bolt from their finger.
33 - Sōkatsui (Blue Fire, Crash Down) - Fires a burst of blue spiritual energy at a target in a similar manner to #31, but over a wider area and with more power.
Incantation: "Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws."
57 – Honryuu(Torrent) – Fires a six foot diameter, high pressure blast of water at the target that drags in, and carries them away in the rushing water. The stream itself lasts for up to five seconds.
Incantation: “Lord of the storms, keeper of the raging seas! Ride the waves of the guiltless stream, and drown the wicked in your endless torrent!”
63 - Sōren Sōkatsui (Twin Lotus Blue Fire, Crash Down) - Essentially a doubled version of #33, this spell fires two shots of blue fire with greater potency than the single-shot variety.
Incantation: "Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! On the wall of blue flame, inscribe a twin lotus. In the abyss of conflagration, wait at the far heavens."
9 - Geki (Strike) - Engulfs the target in red light, completely paralyzing them.
Incantation: "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini!! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat!"
26 - Kyakko (Curving Light) - Hides the target from sight, by bending light. The spell has the ability to totally hide the presence of the user or specified object.
55 – Shiirudoruumu (shield room) – When cast, it creates a 200 meter cube around the area, using the caster as it’s center. The cube is capable of handling splash damage from most attacks, but will break if hit directly with a strong attack from someone of equal or greater strength than the caster.
Incantation: “Gate of the soul, barrier of life, Entrap the chaos in your encompassing walls!”
61 - Rikujōkōrō (Six Rods Prison of Light) - Summons six thin, wide beams of light that slam into a target's midsection, holding them in place. The target is then unable to move any part of their body including the parts that were not struck by the beams.
Incantation: "Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!"
77 - Tenteikūra (Heavenly Rickshaws in Silken Air) - Transmits messages mentally to anyone within an area of the caster's choosing. In addition to reciting the spell, the user must draw specific markings on their arms, which are animated by the spell to convey the messages. The messages can be spoken either by the caster or by another within the vicinity of the caster.
Incantation: "Black and white net. Twenty-two bridges, sixty-six crowns and belts. Footprints, distant thunder, sharp peak, engulfing land, hidden in the night, sea of clouds, blue line. Form a circle and fly though the heavens."
Other Characters: None

Shin was lying on the ground and staring into the night sky. They sky was clear of clouds, with a few white stars were shining like small dots across the sea of black, and the glow of the full moon directly above him. However, Shin had more pressing concerns than the scenery at the moment.
"Why exactly am I on my back in....where am I anyway?"
"Try getting up first, honestly, you get thrown into a strange place and you're busy staring at the sky"
"You're fairly calm kitsune. I'm guessing you're responsible for my appearance here."
It was not a question.
"My, my, aren't we sharp today?"
The first sarcastic comment of the day. Shin decided that it was in his best interests to actually observe his surroundings instead of arguing, and cautiously stood up to get a good view. He quickly noted that he was not on the ground. The only thing separating him from a fall into a lake was a tall, white marble pillar, with a series of black runes carved along its length. The lake was, on closer observation completely clear and reflected the sky like a mirror. Looking to the horizon, Shin noticed more pillars scattered across the water, which seemed to stretch on beyond the horizon. It formed quite the relaxing sight, and Shin took a small moment to appreciate the sight, since a certain spirit clearly didn't care about his main concern, and he needed to be calm to win the inevitable fight.
"I have a very interesting soul room."
Why bother fighting? One thing Shin learnt in his two years with his spirit was that she always had a good reason for anything she did, no matter how insane it appeared.
"You're learning not to get into arguments you can't win. I'm making progress."
She also knew exactly how to get a rise out of him. Mind reading was one major pain in the neck.
"Really? Seems like a blast to me."
"I'm sorry to break up your fun, but don't you think you should appear by now and explain why you dragged me out of the graduation exam?"
"That's quite simple actually, it's about time you learnt my name."
This time the voice came to the right of him instead of his head, and Shin turned to focus on his spirit, out in her kitsune form, who was for once staring back at him seriously.
"It's quite sad that I can materialise, yet you don't even know my name."
"You're the one who kept telling me I'll find out when I need it. Well if I don't get it, I'm going to get carved up by a noble who has his, and wants to show me up in front of his elitist pack."
"That just gives you a reason to figure out my name quickly."
That was a very good point.
"My test is simple. Solve my riddles, and you will get my name. You're a smart kid, you should figure it out in five minutes, especially since all the answers are in this room"
"Why five minutes?"
"Well you could take longer, but in five minutes enough time would have passed for that noble to cut you in half. That would be an interesting site though so feel free to take your time."
Yet she calls him sadistic.
"It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills, and empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after, ends life, kills laughter."
"The dark, I know that riddle."
"Always do I tell the truth, yet cannot speak. Look to me and see what really is."
"My reflection. Not that hard when I'm staring right at it."
"I was going for mirror but that answer is actually more helpful. Now for the point of all of this. They follow and lead, but only as you pass. Dress yourself in darkest black, and they are darker still. Always they flee the light, though without the sun there would be none."
"You saved the hard one for last then."
"Combine the answers to the last two riddles for a hint"
'So the other riddles were to help me. Looking out for me even when she's trying to kill me.'
Shin thought, while pondering his spirit's riddle. His quick answers left him with about four minutes to answer, with two odd hints to guide him.
'Something that fits the riddle, something that's a dark reflection of me. My reflection darkened would become what?'
"A bit darker than what you're thinking of, try black. I just practically told you the answer too so you better get it out."
"A black reflection of myself would be..... the answer is shadow."
"That is correct, and also my name. I am your shadow, always at your side as long as you don't lose the light in your heart. Trust in me, and we'll take all of Soul Society by storm and become the strongest together."
"Now wake up, and show that royal prick who has the real power here. Embrace our union."
"Enough of the melodrama. Embrace the darkness, Kumori."
General Info
History:
Life
Shin grew up in a small town, as a child very intelligent for his age.
Death
Zanpakuto
(3% cost)
Shinigami Techniques
