Hello. I learned about this site from a friend, and I must say I'm intrigued. I am...well, to be blunt something of an obssessive roleplayer. It's very much important to me, and I love doing it. However, often I find myself paired with, shall we say, sub-par individuals, which I find rather irritating.
I may very much consider joining this site, but before I do I want to make sure that I can hold my own here. If it's not too much trouble, I'm posting an application of a Bleach fancharacter I made for another RP site. If anyone could take the time to read it and tell me if I have the potential to last here, I'd very much appreciate it.
Please note that this was made when I was still fairly new to Roleplaying. My literary skills have (so I've been told) improved.
Name: Shido (last name unknown by anyone, and he's forgotten it)
Age: 523 (appears to be a middle-aged man)
Birthday: January 16, 1534
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 214 lbs.
Gender: Male
Class: shinigami
Rank: N/A
History/Background: Shido started out life just like any average person back in the 1500s. However, as far back as he could remember he knew that somehow he was different. Maybe it was that whenever he really needed to know something the answer seemed to be whispered in his ear from an unseen person, or maybe it was that he seemed to be just a little bit better at physical things than is normal. Whatever the case, he mostly tried to downplay it and get on with his life.
However, the life he had was utterly destroyed one fateful afternoon as he was walking behind the local Japanese curio shop. The store was quite modern for its age, selling all sorts of items imported from Japan, including swords. Shido was walking behind it one day when he saw the hilt of a blade sticking out of the trash pit. He walked over to it and looked down on the sword. It was simple, yes, but in its own way it was elegant and somehow it called to Shido. Since it was in the trash it was obvious that no one wanted it, so he reached out and grabbed the hilt.
The moment he did, he heard a voice right behind him and turned to see a yellow dragon talking to him. He assumed, naturally enough, that he had gone insane. This feeling was heightened by the fact that suddenly no one he had ever known was able to see or hear him. His family and friends seemed to think that he had just vanished off the face of the Earth. Instead, he started meeting new people who claimed to be deceased spirits. Eventually he came to realize that he was still perfectly sane and that the yellow dragon he had met, Blitzkrieg, was not a figment of his imagination. Blitzkrieg explained that the sword Shido had picked up was really a zanpakuto, as well as the other details concerning his transition to a spirit.
Not long after, Shido started encountering Hollows. Blitzkrieg explained what they were, and Shido took it upon himself to purify as many as he could, viewing his powers as a gift which he must use to help others as best he can. He has been hunting them every since. An interesting fact is that he never received any form of training from another shinigami. In fact, for about the first 100 years of his life, he wasn't aware that any other than him even existed. Everything he knows about what he is and what he can do (which is pretty much what every other shinigami knows) he learned from Blitzkrieg. This relationship of mentor-student gradually blossomed into a friendship between man and spirit that few have matched.
Shido trusts only in his own abilities, so most of his shinigami gear (Hollow locator, memory modifier, and gigai) was created by himself after he observed another shinigami use them. As a result, they almost never resemble the standard issue model and are thus often mistaken for odd trinkets.
Personality: Since Shido never met another shinigami for 100 years, he never realized that there were others who aged as slowly as he did. Because of this, he tried not to get attached to anyone, because he did not want to have to watch friends grow old and die around him, even if they didn't know he was there. He could have associated instead with the ghosts around him, but he felt too depressed by the fact that they were dead and didn’t try much. As a result, he became cold and distant, bonding only with Blitzkrieg. After discovering others like him, he gradually began to learn how to bond with others, but by then it had become a deep-seated habit, and he is still having difficulty with it. He still prefers to operate alone, he barely trusts anyone, and he never lets anyone see his face.
However, Shido also has another side to him. He feels that his experience, while maybe not as great as, say, a captain, is still fairly great compared to a good few, and he feels that he is obligated to pass on what he can to the younger generation, as well as protect them when necessary. You are therefore most likely to meet him when you are attempting a difficult new technique, or are in a very serious situation.
Appearance: Shido never lets anyone see what he looks like in spirit form. He is so cautious, in fact, that when he created his gigai, he deliberately made sure that it looked nothing like him. While as a spirit, Shido always wears the garb of a shinobi. which he has augmented slightly with a black leather chestplate and steel gaunlets. He is lean and muscular, and he moves with a deliberate grace at all times. On the almost non-existant occasions when Shido removes his mask, he appears as a fairly rugged individual. His hair is a pale blond color, and one of his storm grey eyes is crossed with a diagonal white scar, though he can still see perfectly well out of it.
Zanpakuto Name: Blitzkrieg (working name until I can translate the name into Japanese)
Blitzkrieg is one of the few zanpakuto spirits that manifests itself into a visible form. He takes on the appearance of a bipedal yellow dragon with blue eyes.
Zanpakuto Ability: N/A
Sealed Zanpakuto: a single, nondescript katana.
Shikai Description: Phrase: "Unleash the wrath of the storm" (again, Japanese translation coming soon)
New appearance: A pair of katana. The blades are a bright gold color, and the hilts have the shape of an open dragon’s mouth.
Shikai Techniques: "Thunder's Teeth" (translation coming) One or both of Shido's katana shatter into a set of four shuriken each. These shuriken are charged with electrical energy, and Shido can manipulate their path of flight at will. However, this takes a great deal of his concentration, so he tends to move less rapidly the more he takes control over them. When fully in control of all eight shuriken, Shido comes practically to a full standstill.
"Bite of Lightning" (translation coming) If Shido slices an enemy while using this technique, he will over stimulate the electricity in the person's nerves. The effect of this is that the person will now be in a great deal of pain. There is no actual damage being done to them, but the pain can be a distraction and can often give Shido an advantage in battle.
Bankai: Konzenittai (In Perfect Unity)
Description: Shido and Blitzkrieg fuse into a new entity, Konzenittai. The new figure has armored scales, wings, a tail, and a serpent's head, but at the same time looks distinctly man-like. The best analogy would be a man wearing the most perfect dragon costume in existence. ((if I ever get a CG imaging program, I will create and post a picture.))
In addition to this, Konzenittai is granted a new sword. The sword starts with a simple leather covered hilt which is attachted to a golden hilt. The hilt is comprised of a four-point star over which is superimposed a circular platform. Inscribe on the platform are ancient runes, and set in the center is a single blood red ruby. However, by far the most interesting part of the sword is the blade itself. The easiest way to describe it is to first compare it to a tuning fork. It consists of a pair of metal “wings” on either side of a gap were the center of a normal blade would be. The wings themselves widen from their tips downward, each ending at a flat edge with a corner, which suggests that if the blade had been whole it would have a shape akin to a triangle.
Bankai Techniques:
Spear of Heaven
Description: Konzenittai summons a lightning bolt to strike at his opponent.
Effect: Summons a bolt of lightning
Cost: -10 reiatsu points
Limits: Opponent can dodge if their speed is twice as great. If their speed is greater but not quite double, the damage they take is halved.
Stat Effect:
Life Points = N/A
Reiatsu = -10
Stamina = N/A
Atk = N/A
Def = N/A
Sp Atk = +20
Sp Def = N/A
Spd = N/A
Name: Cosmic Discharge
Description: Konzenittai takes his spiritual energy and releases it outward in a storm of electrical spears, which fire in all directions from his body.
Cost: -20 reiatsu points
Limits: Opponent can dodge is speed is thrice as great. If their speed is greater but not thrice, the damage they take is halved.
Stat Effect:
Life Points = N/A
Reiatsu = -20
Stamina = N/A
Atk = N/A
Def = N/A
Sp Atk = +10
Sp Def = N/A
Spd = N/A
Name: Final Cry of Thunder
Description: Konzenittai feeds all of his stamina, spiritual energy, and life force into his sword, which increases his attack power explosively. He then delivers one final almighty sword blow to his enemy.
Effect: Reduces HP to one tenth the original amount (E.G. start with 100, go down to 10) reduces reiatsu and stamina to zero. Take the total amount of all points lost, double them, and add them to Konzenittai's attack.
Limits: Opponent can dodge is speed is twice as great or geater. Otherwise, the attack is inescapable (seems kinda cheap, I know, but if this doesn't hit hard I'm screwed) Cannot be used if Hp is less than 1/10. Cannot be used if there are less than 40 total points to be used.
Stat Effect:
Life Points = reduce to 1/10
Reiatsu = -all
Stamina = -all
Atk = add double of all points lost
Def = N/A
Sp Atk = N/A
Sp Def = N/A
Spd = N/A
Character's Quote: “Having friends is all well and good, but when it comes right down to it, it’s your own skills that really matter.”
Roleplay Sample: A lone figure stood on a rocky cliff overseeing a tranquil ocean. The sun was just setting, and the figure on the cliff had an unsurpassed view of the brilliant display of red and gold dancing across the sky. “It’s funny,” he said, seemingly to himself. “I’ve lived over 500 years, yet the sunset still seems just as beautiful as it ever was.” And, though it seemed no one else stood on the cliff with him, a voice answered. “Apparently there are some things which never lose their beauty with age.”
Gradually, the powerful figure of a bright yellow dragon appeared standing next the man. He was fearsome looking, yet at the same time he had an aura which would let one know that he had no malevolent intent, and that if he wanted he could seem far more dangerous yet. He stood next to the man on the cliff, who showed no surprise at his appearance. One only had to look at the pair of them to know that they were bonded by a trust in each other that few have ever seen, let alone felt.
The two stood in silence for a time, admiring the beauty of the scene before them. Suddenly, the dragon whipped his head around, looking at something behind the man. “We appear to have company,” he said in an even tone. The man sighed. He reached into his shirt and pulled out the black crystal he wore around his neck. Sure enough, it was shining with a white inner brightness.
“How many?” he asked. “Three. Only one seems particularly dangerous,” the dragon answered. The man sighed again, and his body tensed almost imperceptibly in anticipation of his oncoming foes. He did not wait long, as the three Hollows rapidly closed the distance between them. The first to reach him resembled a puma, except that no puma had spines growing out of its back. It lunged at him with its claws outstretched. When it was barely a foot from him, there was suddenly a flash of steel and the sound of the wind whistling. Suddenly the creature was writhing on the ground with a large slash across its chest, and the man was holding an unsheathed sword at his side. He turned and without hesitation drove the blade through the skull-like mask it wore and watched as it dissolved into light.
The next Hollow to attack him was similar to a very large octopus with much too many arms. The man uttered a quick phrase, and suddenly he was holding not one but two shining katana. The creature lashed out with its tentacles, only to have them sliced off by the glistening swords, which danced through the air as though they were part of the man’s arm. The Hollow tried again, and this time the greedy tentacles wrapped around the man’s outstretched forearm. He planted his feet and tugged hard. The Hollow was pulled through the air, only to be impaled on the man’s waiting sword.
The final Hollow approached more warily than its fallen comrades. It was smart enough to recognize that it was facing a skilled opponent. The creature had the shape of a man, but it was horribly twisted and mutated, with long razor sharp claws instead of fingers. The man and the creature circled each other while the dragon stood off to the side, watching intently. Suddenly the Hollow leapt forward with a leaping slash, only to have its claws meet cold steel. The man pushed it back and countered with a swing of his own, which the Hollow caught on its blade fingers. Again and again the two struck out at each other, only to find their attacks blocked.
Finally the two were but three inches apart, their blades locked together in front of them. Neither was able to gain an inch on the other. Suddenly, the man’s outline seemed to waver, and then he vanished. A split second later, a blade appeared out of each of the two eye sockets in the Hollow’s mask. It fell forward onto its face, revealing the man standing behind him.
The man sheathed his sword, now singular again, and turned back to the sunset. “That went well,” he said aloud, “though I didn’t except that last one to put up such a fight.” “That was skillfully handled,” agreed the dragon. “But you are still having a slight difficulty with your flash step.” The man sighed. “I am trying, you know.” “Don’t focus so much on activating it. Think more on the follow through, and your start will be smoother.” The man sighed again, and though one could not see it through his mask, he was smiling slightly. “You’ll never let up on me, will you Blitzkrieg?” he said in a mock-weary voice. “Only because I know you have what it takes Shido,” answered Blitzkrieg, also barely smiling. They turned back to the sunset. The two stood together like that a long time, respected equals, but also valued friends.
