Benzaiten walked out of the Squad nine barracks along with the rest of his squad, lead by their captain, who was accompined by their Vice-Captain. Everyone was dressed in long white dress robes and each was caring a single candle as they moved along in a silent train down the long narrow passes that made up the soul society. As the this long train made its way up to Soukyoku Hill it was met by eleven other trains one for each division except for one, all dressed in a similar way and every person holding a single white candle. The precession moved carefully up the hill and soon everyone was standing around it or on it with the Commander General standing in front of them all dressed in a slightly more expensive robe, with his squad standing behind him and wrapped around the Soukyoku and the execution stand. There was silence as everyone took in the grim scene.
In front of Squad one were a multitude of coffins with pictures in front of each one and a large array of flowers for each. Today was the day of remembering and the last conflict had taken many from the shinigami. Benzaiten shook quietly as he looked upon the hundreds of coffins that laid before everyone, each was a victum of the recent raid on Hueco Mundo and Benzaiten was ashamed to say he hadn't been a part of that assult, letting a few tears fall for the people he didn't know, he listened intently as the Commander General began a small service to remember the Shinigami that had fallen in battle. Benzaiten was shuddered as he listened and wondered if anyone here felt like he did, so weak and powerless and so worthless because of his failure to act. He could have saved one or two of them maybe, he could have done something to keep them from dying, but instead he had stayed behind and they paid the price for his cowardly ways.
There was a small hand clasping his shoulder and he noticed a member of squad four was reassuring him, probably by orders of the captain. He nodded thankfully and let the young woman be on her way, before he looked back up to the Commander General and listened to his speech.
