It was a quiet day so far in Seireitei, at least for one Captain Shimizu Rin. She had just gotten a few stacks of paperwork dumped on her from first Division, all of which required her to actually look at them instead of passing it off to some unlucky officer. She had been working at it since five in the morning and had barely made a dent in the pile, but she was seriously considering just setting the entire pile on fire and blaming it on a training accident; it wasn't as if that had never happened before.
The noises of panicked shinigami drew her attention quickly enough. Either someone did something that will cause her a lot of trouble, of Kubi was at work again. She wasn't sure which one was worse, but she should face the problem now; if it was big enough, it would give her a good excuse for blowing off all the paperwork for a day. Slowly rising from her desk, she grabbed Chibara, fixing the umbrella on her back as she walked outside, and immediately winced as the sun blasted her full force in the face. Looked like it was about ten in the morning.....she really should get something to eat....and go get her hat, whatever was going on, if no one tried to find her yet, it couldn't be that bad. Or it was that bad, and her squad was desperately trying to clean up the mess. Either way, a hungry and tired Rin was not very patient, and enough of her squad members had to get patched up by the medical section for the week.
Decision made, Rin made a beeline for her quarters, making a mental checklist of everything she neglected to do since that courier woke her up with those papers.
I need to get my hat....my haori, food, lots of food....find out what everyone's acting crazy for, and check on Kubi. Then figure out a way to not have to do that paperwork.
While musing on her problems of the day, Rin had made it back to her room, and found her missing clothing. Next stop, the cafeteria. She needed food, and needed it now. Preferably in mass quantities; it looked like it would be the only meal she would have today.

PRESENTS!!! CAKE!!! PRESENTS!!! That's what Kubi was thinking as he ran through the streets and rodes of the seireitei. He was wearing his usual robes with pink undershirt but this time he had a fresh purple lily he had lucked in his hair. Kubi's smile brightened as he realized that he could now tell everyone he was twelve. This made him giggle slightly as he rounded another corner, moving closer and closer to division 13's quaters.
As Kubi stopped outside of Division 13's massive building structure he sat down. Well sitting he began to draw faces in the dirt. The faces consisted of everything from smilies to monkeys. Kubi was going to wait for Rin to come out, afterall he knew she was busy and probably wouldnt want to be bothered.
"Kubi.... You think Rin remembers that today is your birthday?" Kaito laughed for a minute at first because he thought that it was rediculous, then he realized that there was a large chance that Rin would forget about his birthday. Kaito frowned, stood, and crossed is arms.
" I swear that if she forgets!!!....Hmph!"

After somehow managing to get through breakfast in peace, Rin's next step was a detour to clean herself up. At this point she admitted to herself that she getting quite desperate to avoid having to work today if she was going to such lengths to procrastinate; eating breakfast did not warrant a bath and hour long grooming session - this from the woman known to not spend time fixing anything outside of her hair ribbons. But she couldn't avoid the terror forever, and eventually went out to clean up after her division yet again.
Considering all of her dread, it wasn't as bad as it could have been - someone managed to blow up part of the research building, but they were already at work repairing the damage, and no one got any serious injuries this time. Unfortunately, that meant that it wasn't a valid excuse for evading paperwork. That led her to her next objective; find Kubi. The kid should have shown up by now....
Sensing his reiatsu, a quick shunpo had her outside Division 13, staring at Kubi doodling in the dirt, with a lily in his hair. Sometimes Rin wondered about that kid, she was less feminine than him, and she was female
Oh really? Who is the one that made that uniform for him?
.....Shut up.[/i][/color]
Staring at his drawings, Rin asked the obvious "What are you doing?"

Kubi felt Rin's presense inside of division 13 a moment before it left the division's doors and appeared infornt of him. He wasnt really suprised at the fact she used shunpo to get around so quickly since it was something she did commonly. Kubi was more suprised by her question.
"What are you doing?"
Kubi whiped away the drawing of the big smiley face with its tongue sticking out that he was drawing and then looked up at Rin. Her long hair and umbrella were in their usual spot. Kubi laughed for a moment at her question then thought for a second before standing up.
"Wellllllll"
Kubi began as his right hand quickly removed the flower that was in his hair. He thought Rin might look down on it so he instead began to twirl it in his hair. He looked up at Rin with his big puppy dog eyes and ear to ear smile.
" You do know what today is right?"

"Welllll"
When Kubi took that tone, Rin knew that this was not going to end well. The puppy dog eyes and gigantic smile just made things worse; the kid wanted something.
" You do know what today is right?"
......What?
Rin made a quick mental check of the date....nope nothing special about it. It obviously meant something to the kid though, which meant that this was going to very quickly become a bad day. Stalling was needed.
What day is it?
.......You don't remember? You're cold Rin.
I agree with Chi, you should know what day it is.
Fine, I'm a horrible person, tell me what day it is, if I get it wrong, he looks like he'll start crying.
Honestly, forgetting the day you became a mother......
Rin's face was battling between turning pale from mortification - how could she forget the day that they met? And red from embarrassment - did they have to remind her about that incident again? Really, he called her mommy once! It never happened again! She was tilting her head downwards, letting her hat cover more of her face - a nervous habit of hers when she got flustered.
"Of course I know what day it is. It's your birthday."
Okay, date acknowledged, crisis averted. All she had to do was explain that she couldn't really spend time with him right now, try to speed rush the paperwork, and take him somewhere in Seireitei......and disappoint him again. Being a big sister was a pain sometimes. Ah well, she could deal with the paperwork later, it wasn't as if the commander general could fire her.
"We're going on a trip to the living world for the day."
Okay, calm in control Rin was back. This was salvageable - Kubi loved the living world, and she could easily find birthday cakes and presents in Tokyo. She could pull this off, and give Kubi a happy birthday. They just needed to get their gigai from the research division........which just got half blown up, she needed to file a report on that too when she got back. Okay, get two gigai out of them while they clear up the mess, then head to the Living world.

The only words Kubi really heard were " Living World". Though he did notice the quick look of embarresment, which ment she had forgotten to a degree. Kubi just mentally shrugged it off, it wasnt like she wasnt busy and shinigami dont often keep track of time anyways. As a matter of fact Kubi figured he was the only person in the seireitei to still celebrate a "birthday".
Kubi smiled up at Rin again, he was always happy when they could hang out. I wasnt often since she was a captain. Plus soon he would have to begin the academy...unless Rin could pull some strings. Kubi giggled slightly then thought about where he wanted to go...
London? - No Paris? - No Tokyo? - No America - YES!!!
Kubi thought abouthis last visit to New York and became giddy. The flashing lights, the big building, AND BROADWAY!!! He clapped his hands together and then spun around in a 180 degree circle with his back now turned to Rin.
" Soooo when shall we go Rin?, I think we should go to New York!"

Rin's eye began twitching when she heard Kubi mention New York. She remember all too well what happened last time they went there; a celebrity set on fire, captain commander chewing her out for not keeping an eye on him, he might have threatened to take Kubi away from her if it wasn't for the issue that Kubi technically was an adult, and more importantly, Rin looked like she was to bankai his ass the moment he even hinted at it. No one messed with her little brother and lived.
"New york....fine, but please try to set anyone else on fire? On that note, please don't get drunk on anymore of your special juice."
The tone that she said that in made it quite clear that she didn't believe his story about the flammable orange juice one bit. Really, she didn't mind him drinking - he was of legal age, even if she questioned his mental maturity sometimes - but the kid had no sense of control. The last thing that she needed was him getting drunk....some pervert taking advantage - did he even know about sex?....she didn't think the captain commander would appreciate what her reaction to that would be. The ones who try it on her ended up in a not so pleasant condition, and she knew that she would lose all sense of control if it involved Kubi.
Anyway, enough worrying, it wasn't as if he could get himself injured in the living world; it was the humans who had to worry. Pulling out two odd-shaped discs, she threw them in the air, as they hovered around her outstretched hand, spraying a pattern across it.
"Bakudo 77, Tenteikura."
The blue rectangle formed in front of her hand, as Rin laid down her orders for her entire division.
"Kubi and I are going to New York. While I'm gone, I expect you to not cause any emergencies. Prepare our Senkaimon gate and bring us two gigais there. You have five minutes."
Breaking off contact, she turned to her little brother again. "Come on Kubi, let's go." She took off walking, making sure to move slower than her usual pace to let him keep up with her.
