Shinigami
Name: Azuvala Assantri
Gender: Female
Age: 131 years
Division: 10th
Rank: 2nd seat
Physical Description: A girl of average height (about 5'5"), Azuvala is of medium build. While she may appear delicate while she sits behind a desk or while she does everyday duties, she is noticeably sturdy and well built, having good shoulders and legs. One of her inclinations is to take meticulous care of her hands by keeping them clean at all times and wearing leather gloves to protect them from scratches and even paper cuts. Azuvala has no real marks on her body in terms of scars or wounds. She had been wounded several times in the past, but never to the point of leaving a real scar.
She has brown, short hair that doesn’t quite touch her shoulders, except at the back of her head where she has a long braid that just reaches the bottom of her shoulder blades. Her hair tends to get ‘frazzled’ from the times she forgets to brush it, but is otherwise quite soft and smooth to touch. Her hair is parted far to the left, which causes her hair to fall to cover her right eye occasionally. Azuvala has light skin that tans slightly when she spends more time outside. Her features are simple. She has a medium sized nose, a plain mouth and a rounded chin. She has blue eyes. and the one strange feature of them is that they have no real characteristic. They are not striking, bright, or deep, but are instead a very plain color and depth, showing her character to be the normal person she is.
She wears a standard, uniform shihakusho with a light, flexible leather outfit over the white kimono beneath, which works well as ranged protection and also protects against some special attacks, particularly fire. The sash around her waist is standard uniform. Her shoes are the normal warabi sandals with appropriate socks, though she will occasionally change them for her hard-heeled brown boots.
Personality: A level headed person, she lives with her feet firmly on the ground and her head in the clouds. An optimistic realist, she often prefers to settle fights with words rather than blood, preferring to defend, though she will often use offense simply as an effective defence. She is by no means a pacifist, and realizes the necessity to use force to accomplish things when required. She is polite and has good manners in strange company, while around well-known others she is more out-spoken and friendly. She learns more easily when being taught by other people because she readily listens and implements changes they suggest before deciding whether they are beneficial or not. Her strengths are her endurance and flexibility, in spirit, mind, and body.
She is extremely obedient to people of higher rank than herself. Anything considered an order by those of higher rank than her is considered above her own life, because her job is her reason for the afterlife. She believes that it is her duty to follow the orders through to the bitter end. However, she has strong morals that make her hesitant to kill, though she will if it is absolutely necessary. The only time she might be tempted to disobey an order would be in the case of a close friend. Even then, it would be an extremely difficult decision for her. She will also listen to what people of lower rank than her say and will do as much as she can to help, because she knows that everyone must start at the bottom and work to move to the top.
She likes stable food that isn't sweet or salty, food that is filling or tough. She is extremely sensitive to spicy food and would rather starve than eat it. She likes to take her time eating, and will cut her portions into abnormally small, bite-sized pieces to eat them one by one just to make the flavor last longer. The thing she admires the most in Japanese society are chopsticks and the rice you eat with them, her main reason being that it takes so much skill and time for a foreigner to eat just a spoonful.
She avoids loud noises to a paranoid extent because she believes they will damage her hearing. She is terrified of heights, or more specifically being at the edge of very high areas, though she refrains from showing it in the company of others. She enjoys reading and writing and regards paperwork as another way to practice one’s mastery of their language, handwriting, and ability to explain things. She adores music and the Latin language, and her one goal and desire is to someday be able to describe her own motions as ‘elegant’.
Her favorite thing to do is to fall asleep in the highest branches of trees, which are naturally comfortable to her. Her previous sensei remarked that she must have been a very strange squirrel in her past life.
Azuvala has a tendency to jump into things, namely missions, without completely thinking out whether she can complete them safely and without error. She occasionally assumes things after seeing enough facts that point her conclusion and has made a fool of herself more than once when the things she assumed were incorrect.
One of her flaws is the fact that she will never admit when anything is bothering her, and she will ignore almost everything in order to keep herself from inconveniencing others. Azuvala can't count the number of times she's become sick because she didn't want to bother anyone to ask for medicine or help. While this makes it easy for her to ignore small irritants and stay in a generally peaceful mood, she will purposefully ignore the warning signs and pain her body gives her when she is wounded, which ultimately leads to her being wounded worse in the end.
She is actually very shy when speaking to people she only slightly knows, but conceals the fact quite effectively with a friendly politeness. Though no one has actively noticed or remarked upon the fact, one of the few ways to tell how comfortable she is around a person is to watch how often and for how long she makes eye contact with them. Because she was raised to be polite, she won't make eye contact with a person for a long time because it might be considered staring, but otherwise, if she can't look into your eyes for more than a second before looking away indirectly, she isn't quite comfortable around you. If she looks at you several times while speaking to you and can maintain eye contact with you, then you are closer to her and she feels generally safe or comfortable in your presence. If the person is a complete stranger, this does not apply. If it is someone she has never met, but she is being introduced to, this rule holds true.
Her habits have caused misunderstandings in the past because she doesn't always talk about what she thinks or how she feels. Such misunderstandings last for long periods of time, during which her mood grows worried and more unhappy with every passing day. While she has no problem with people disliking her simply because they don't like her personality, she hates for people to not like her because they do not understand her reasons or because they believe an untrue fact about her. She will dwell on the misunderstanding with great worry and fret that are quite often never resolved because she doesn't have the heart to bother the person. Luckily, these problems are few and far in between because she tries to be so polite to begin with.
Her concealed shy personality is actually reflected in her sense of humor. She can take a joke pleasantly, even if it is meant to be malicious, and rather than countering a person's jokes towards her with one of her own, she often replies in a manner that doesn't deny the accusation, often accompanied with a pretend sad face while bemoaning the fact that it must be true with a whine. She is prone to be whimsical at times, and during these instances she will instead adamantly refuse and brush aside the accusation dismissively, countering with a spirited reply and grin.
History: Childhood
Ázuvala was the second child in a small middle-class human family. She had normal parents who loved her, and an older sister to look up to. Not to say she didn't have her disagreements, but she had a happy childhood. Her family didn't move much, and they were settled in a peaceful city community for the full length of her time on earth.
As a child, Azuvala loved to learn new things, and her interests were constantly changing with the many books she read. One thing she liked that never changed was her sister. Her sister was seven years older than her, and was her role model in just about everything. Her sister had a large amount of spiritual pressure and could see hollows, ghosts, and shinigami, like her mother, while Azuvala could only see their hazy outlines. It wasn't something that was known because it had been discussed, it was something that you noticed and didn't really talk about.
While there was no hurry on the part of her family to understand what they saw, Azuvala wanted to know more about what she could not clearly see. Her sister would describe them to her in satisfying detail after a great amount of bribing, begging, persuasion and tears on the young girl's part. In truth, they both desired to find out more about these people they saw, hoping to eventually learn enough about them to write a sort of report on them.
With a great amount of meticulous research and several years without finding anything, Ázuvala and her sister found a technique by which a user could supposedly ‘meet the unseen’. Naturally, they tested this, their best find up until that point. By this time, Azuvala's sister’s spiritual pressure had begun to awaken her own natural powers, and she could see the spirit world clearly. Their grandmother had been a shinigami, and they had realized this conclusion after some work with genealogy and some complicated deductions.
Becoming a Shinigami
With little thought to safety measures, they had begun the meeting of 'the unseen'. They were hoping to find something on the mysterious figures in black robes they only saw in fleeting moments. The experiment was disastrous- her sister became an incomplete arrancar- a rare occurrence in the human world that caught the attention of the Soul Society instantly. Several shinigami from surrounding areas came to investigate the problem.
The first shinigami on site was a young man from 13th Division, and he engaged her sister in combat. She had lost all sanity by this point and could no longer control her actions or thoughts, losing her soul with the transformation.
In the middle of the fight, the shinigami finally caught the newly changed arrancar off guard, and initiated a large killing blow attack with his zanpakuto. Ázuvala attempted to block the lethal blow to her most admired sister at the last second, but was unable to help in the slightest. The attack cleansed her sister and brought Azuvala to the edge of death. She had no chance of survival, only a long, drawn-out death, and the shinigami asked her if she would permit him to end it quickly. She acquiesced, and he finished her off, unknowingly cutting her soul sleep chain in the process.
When she woke as a shinigami, he had already disappeared. She was lying to the side of the alley in which they had been fighting, with her body nowhere to be found. Thinking she was still alive, she went to her old home to tell her parents about what had happened. When she arrived, her own funeral was taking place, and her body was being buried by her own parents. To her surprise, they could not see her, or refused to acknowledge they could see her, something she could never understand. She realized then that she could not be seen by anyone, and she also was garbed in a black robe like the people she had seen herself. After watching over her parents until the time of their death, she began to wander about for some time without purpose. In one of her wanderings, a new shinigami she had never seen took her to the Soul Society with the assumption she was something of a new Academy student after she explained she had 'lost her way'.
Entering the Soul Society
After being brought to the Soul Society, she sought out the first shinigami whom had killed her, and found him by pure luck after accidentally running into the Captain of 13th Division.
When he first saw her, he was astounded that she was alive. After explaining what had happened and her desire to learn more about the shinigami. Though he was a low-ranking officer, he decided to work as her mentor to teach her the basics of combat and being a shinigami. She was more an ‘honored guest’ than an official shinigami at this point, because she did not know anything about fighting hollows or working in the Soul Society. He started working to teach her enough to be accepted into his own division, and planned on introducing her as a 'rogue shinigami' once they had trained enough.
After some time, once she had learned most of the basic skills and necessary things about the Soul Society, they planned on introducing her officially to the captain. However, before this could take place, the young man was called out on a routine hollow mission which resulted in his death.
Once Azuvala found out what had happened, she immediately left the Soul Society to go to earth, where she remained wandering, occasionally returning to the Soul Society to see if anything had been heard of from the hollow that had killed her mentor. She still searches for the hollow constantly in order to finish her mentor's last mission in respect to his deceased spirit.
Joining the Gotei 13
After several years had passed, Azuvala was found to be a rogue shinigami when she entered the Soul Society and had no division. She asked to be sent to take the Academy exam to be placed into a division, and was accepted as the fourth seat of tenth division, mostly because of her ability to keep up with reports and paperwork for the outer defence of the company. She was trained by a rogue shinigami who became the vice-captain of second division during this time before he finally left again to return to his lone-wolf lifestyle. He helped in a more specific manner to train her to be more suitable in using kido and in hand-to-hand combat.
Bankai Aquisition: *Not Achieved Yet*
Crystallina Compensationem made it clear that it was time for Azuvala to begin to listen to it more clearly when she ended up nearly dying from her first encounter with the rogue vice-captain of second division. She accepted the fact and they began to train together for her final release. During the course of their training, it became clear that Azuvala simply could not regard every person she met with suspicion, and that despite a full year of practice they still were not reaching a common ground. Because they could not come to terms, it became a battle for control. At first, Azuvala won, defeating her spirit after a full day of battle, finally pinning it tightly in victory.
However, she let up slightly after winning, and her sword unexpectedly emphasized its point of never trusting and of always being aware by clearly turning the tables because of her moment of relaxation. Because of this, she finally attained her final release, but not without her zanpakuto winning overall. It placed a solid restriction that could not be lifted in her current state over the entire technique, thus the restriction system. When she calls to her sword for help, it is the call of a master calling a servant, for her spirit would not come otherwise. Thus, in spite, her spirit has made it clear that it still has a hold over her, and that they will never have the unity to make the technique complete until she becomes as wary and cautious as her sword.
As part of the training of her sword, she was given a challenge to shatter a large crystal pillar in the center of her soul. Within that pillar lay another 'foxie-dragon'. It looked very similar to the crystalline dragon she had been training with, but there were several differences. It was a deep black color, and its wings and tail appeared to look like satin curtains with a feel similar to velvet. Its eye mask was slightly different in shape, though it had the same unseeing eyes as the first foxie-dragon. When she finally managed to shatter it, after many, many months, it awoke. It was a very quiet spirit afterwards, that never appeared or even responded until she initiated her shikai. Even then, it never spoke anything but warnings and simple ideas.
When she asked the foxie-dragon about its personality and why it seemed so different from her soul, it didn't reply. Afterwards, she realized that she understood the response of its silence, and that it was something of her experience, or the quiet instinct that had saved her so many times before. Before long, she realized that her shadowy foxie-dragon was actually extremely impulsive and somewhat adventurous, usually being the one to urge her to try something different and lend a hand with techniques. The crystalline foxie-dragon remained rigid and suspicious in personality. When she asked the dragon about it, she received a lengthy explanation.
The spirit was actually as fun-loving as Azuvala herself was, serene and loyal, too. However, after being attacked by her own sister as a child, it had unknowingly woken in her a deep mistrust that her spirit had taken upon itself rather than allowing it to taint Azuvala's consciousness. However, by taking such a burden on, the spirit deprived its holder of bankai for the reason she had such low caution after such an event. Some mistrust is important to the true nature of her unhindered bankai, but because it is not present, the spirit was forced to place a limit on it for it to work.
Additional Info: She wears tan gloves normally, but the strange thing is that they have nondescript weights sewn into the edge of their wrists. The reason she wears the weights is because it is part of a technique she has been trying to use in order to warn her of a previous condition that affected the bones of her wrists and ankles. They had weakened so significantly and suddenly that she could not hold her sword or even walk after some time, and it took her several months to return to normal. Now, because of the added weights, she can tell more acutely when the condition is threatening to return, and if that happens to be the case, she realizes it in advance knowledge, and can work to stop it from getting worse.
General
Name: Crystallinus Compēnsatiōnem - Crystal Consideration {lit. Consideration of Crystal}
Spirit Description: A clear crystal 'foxie dragon'. A thin, somewhat delicate-looking serpentine, winged dragon with no limbs, it would appear to be covered in long, smooth hair, that is actually crystal. Each eye is covered with its own eye mask, and between the two eyes and slightly lower is a white, clear cut gem. Slightly back, behind the sides of its eye masks, it has little ears that also give the impression of being covered with fur. It appears to be the only of her spirits, and is, until she releases bankai.
At that point, the foxie-dragon's shadow becomes distinctly different, and instead of having a smooth, fur-like appearance, it looks like black velvet, with a curtain-like look for wings and a tail. The eye mask shape is different, and the gem is an ebony black. It has no ears behind the edge of its eye mask. With quite a bit of effort, it can come from being a shadow to being solid, but it prefers to move freely as a shadow.
Her crystalline spirit has a suspicious nature settled deeply with mistrust that has not once been shaken by anyone other than its master. Whether a person saves her life or not, it regards the movement as an attempt to use her at a later time. It refuses to help her unless she is in the most dire of situations, but it really does care about her overall well-being. Actually quite serene and peaceful, it adopted such a personality in order to protect her from the overall problems that can only be seen as the big picture.
Her shadow spirit is not nearly as mistrustful as her first, but it never takes things that are spoken at face value. After some time one can earn its trust, but it isn’t easy, and it also has a policy of leaving things to its master. Though not quite so strict on refraining from battle, it will not help until she is sufficiently backed into a corner and truly needs help.
ttp://azuvala-assantri.deviantart.com/art/Zanpakuto-Foxie-Dragon-Spirits-85680015
Sealed: A normal zanpakuto, with light blue wrapping around the hilt. The guard is shaped like a rectangle with sharpened ends with a simple design engraved into it. It is the normal length and thickness of an average zanpakuto.
Shikai
azuvala-assantri.deviantart.com/art/Shikai-pose-colored-pencil-112969536
Activation Phrase: Shimmer, Crystallinus Compēnsatiōnem
Appearance: A normal zanpakuto, with light blue wrapping around the hilt. The guard is shaped like a rectangle with sharpened ends and a simple design engraved into its base. The whole sword appears just as normal as an average zanpakuto, save it being slightly longer. It is surprisingly evenly balanced when held, more so then normal swords.
Abilities: Technique name: Nitesce – Begin to Shine / Obscurate – Darken (also Conceal)
Appearance: None. It looks and feels entirely normal, without a change in spiritual pressure or reiatsu to accompany the modification.
Effect: One of her swords, being whichever she chooses, becomes able to pass through anything. When it does so through a living being, it causes the spirit to lose control, ending in a dizzying effect and loss of consciousness. Any normally fatal blow to a living being through a vital organ (arteries excluded) will result in the living being blacking out almost instantly. She can return the sword to normal state using Obscurate. This technique is blockable by items of extremely high spiritual-particle density equivalent to a zanpakuto.
Technique name: Apparate – Manifest (also Appear)
Appearance: The dust becomes a slightly more visible mist in the presence of light as a drifting, floating powder. It does not reflect light, but instead sparkles and shimmers slightly.
Effect: Ázuvala becomes able to actively control the fragments of crystal dust. They connect to form whatever she thinks of or desires, from daggers to a large shield to a battlefield of crystal. She can defragment, shatter and reassemble it at will. Larger objects take more time to consciously form and require the verbal command, but smaller objects can be made with relative ease.
To make a large pillar of crystal appear: 1 post without kido or other energy consuming techniques
To cover the battlefield in such crystals: 2 posts (usable once per page of roleplaying posts) and lasts 3 posts before automatically shattering.
N.B. The powder itself does not cut, burn, or injure physically in any way until formed or controlled. It is also naturally drawn to the sword it came from, meaning it can't be blown away physically, but this also means that it has to stay within about 300 yards of the sword.
azuvala-assantri.deviantart.com/art/The-Key-to-my-Soul-110492146 - Performing a simple Apparate
Technique name: Crystallinus Obsignus : Coniungete – Crystal Seal : Link
Appearance: Her two swords join at the handles and intertwine to make a long, double-sided sword that can be held in one hand. Joined at the center, the thin outer sharp edge of each blade is affected with Nitesce, but the center is the same sharp edge of a normal sword. (In general, this means that just about any time you're cut with the sword, you also get a faint portion of the unconscious feeling with every attack- not enough to really do anything, but enough to be noticeable.)

Bankai
*Not Achieved Yet*
Activation Phrase: "Bankai. Scinde Caelum; Iam Pondus Franget. Crystallina de Divina Pondera!" {Translation: Final Release. Rend the skies; now the balance is shattered. Crystal of Divine Balance!}
Appearance: At this point, both zanpakuto spirits now manifest, and remain at either hand (Shadow spirit usually present on the ground beneath the white spirit and her, crystal spirit is the air generally behind her.)
Her second foxie-dragon becomes distinctly different, and instead of having a smooth, fur-like appearance, it looks like black velvet, with a curtain-like look for wings and a tail. The eye mask shape is different, and the gem is an ebony black. It has no ears behind the edge of its eye mask. It moves freely as a shadow.
Transformation/Appearance: Using both swords, she turns them inward and they shatter completely into a gigantic cloud of fine crystal dust. If she has the sword in its Coniungete form, she holds it directly in front of her and it shatters from the outside in to the hilt. The entire area is cloaked in dust at this point, almost invisibly, but is noticeable in the presence of light, at which time it sparkles. Azuvala's black shihakusho turns almost see-through with a light blue tint while her under-kimono remains white, and she now has crystal guards on her wrists and a guard around her waist underneath.
Abilities: Technique name: Nitesce – Begin to Shine / Obscurate – Darken/Conceal
Effect: She can use this technique on any objects she forms with the dust, but it causes the potency of the band that appears afterward to increase by double.
Technique name: Apparate – Manifest/Appear
Effect: Ázuvala becomes able to actively control the fragments of crystal dust without verbal command or energy and almost entirely with her mind. The size of what she summons or uses determines the number of 'points' she uses.
Object formed* = cost
Shards/pieces/fragments = 1/16th of a point
Large shards or small daggers = 1/4th point
Normal-sized dagger/projectile = 1/2 point
Medium-sized projectile/extremely thin shield (or thicker shield the size of a small buckler) = 1 point
Shield the size of a kite shield = 3 points
Solid crystal pillar = 5 points
Full length shield that can block about half of her body = 10 points
Solid coffin** = 25 points
* Applies to the equivalent. Ex: A small circular bullet would be in the 'shard/piece/fragment' category.
** Sub-technique name : Arcus Crystallinus - Crystal Coffin
Appearance: A large, multi-faceted coffin that can be either large enough to walk around in, or small enough to restrain movement almost entirely.
Effect: Forms an enclosed area of crystal around the target. When used on an ally, it works like a full length shield. When used against an enemy, the technique works quite literally to form a solid coffin, eventually causing the target to suffocate if he/she remains inside for too long. It forms on the ground beneath the targets' feet as well, though it is thinner in that area. It is made of strong enough crystal that an enemy's attack will do no damage to it. An extremely powerful attack by a single person will fracture it, as will multiple strong consecutive attacks. The attacks must be in the same place, whether it be from the outside or inside. The corners of the crystal coffin are the strongest.
Technique name: Crystallinus Obsignus : Coniungete – Crystal Seal : Link
Appearance: Her double-sided sword forms for her use. While in use, this slows down the appearance of the bands (when not using the dust) to one every post.
Cost: 10 points
Technique name: (translation soon) - Last stand : Lend Me Your Aid
Appearance: Both foxie-dragons actually join the battle and participate in her fight as a last resort, following the enemy from the shadows and from the air to launch a dual attack.
Effect: Both of the foxie dragons attack in one large consecutive each, using the last of Azuvala's spiritual pressure and physical energy to supplement the attack. The crystal dragon attempts to go straight through the enemy, while the shadow dragon attacks with a large blast from the ground. As soon as the attack hits or misses, her bankai is shattered completely and she is rendered completely senseless.
Limit: The two dragons absolutely refuse to help Azuvala in this way until she is quite literally incapable of doing anything. (ex. paralyzed, almost dead, wounded to the point she can't move, ect.)
Swordsmanship : She knows the basics and a few slightly more advanced techniques of sword fighting. Can parry and attack with adequate speed and precision.
Limber : Her body is flexible and agile, but not to the point of grace or flowing movement. For example, she can bend backwards easily, and can execute a basic flip.
Hand-to-hand combat : She knows the basic maneuvers of hand-to-hand combat and can execute them well enough to use them effectively but with no real professionalism.
Recourceful : Because she knows a moderate amount about every style she knows of without anything she is outstanding at, she combines and adapts her more simple techniques to the situation at hand to make them stronger or of more use.
Balanced : Her equilibrium is steady, and her general stance is lower to the ground, making it more difficult for her to trip or be knocked over. The flow of her moves is steady and even, as is her spiritual pressure.
Ambidextrous : Being a wielder of a dual zanpakuto, she can use her sword in either hand with equal technique and strength. Though she is normally left-handed, using that hand does not change the power of her swing or her use of her zanpakuto.
Shunpo : A movement ability that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow.
Hado #31-Shot of Red Fire : Fires a ball of red energy at the target
Hado #33-Blue Fire, Crash Down : Fires a burst of blue spiritual energy at a target in a similar manner to 31, but over a wider area and with more power.

Zanpakuto
General
Name: Crystallinus Compēnsatiōnem - Crystal Consideration {lit. Consideration of Crystal}

Activation Phrase: "Bankai. Scinde Caelum; Iam Pondus Franget. Crystallina de Divina Pondera!" {Translation: Final Release. Rend the skies; now the balance is shattered. Crystal of Divine Balance!}
Shinigami Techniques
