A hard series of knocks echoed through the room cloaked in complete darkness, it came three more times each being more urgent than the last but they never received a response. Finally the door came flying open with a boom and flooded the room with light exposing a work area in extreme need of reorganization, things scattered in every corner. Captain Saigotschuu Yun sat at his desk, bending the chair he was sitting in backwards almost to the point of breaking, he sported nothing but a pair of pants and a wrap around his still mending torso. Though from the way he was found one might think he had been drinking, especially since we currently found him drinking coffee in the dark, it was common knowledge that the captain hated alcohol...though given the past few days events its doubtful anyone would have blamed him even if he had been.
Despite being suddenly tossed into the light Yun's eyes focused with superhuman speed on the large Desmae. He was the only man he had remotely close to a second-in command after all the other leaders died or were incapacitated three days ago. Two of them would be back up and running in the next few weeks but two of them would not, and the rest were missing, or more logically deceased though they could never officially say that without proof.
As the two men watched each other all of this seemed to pass between them without a word being spoken and after a moment Yun simply nodded his head. Tipping the chair back to the floor he rose and walked over to his bed and in a swift motion through his large white overcoat over his shoulders, slipped his sandals on and walked out, due to his injuries he had not been sporting his typical outfit...much as he hated sandals his normal boots killed his feet the last time he tried. Desmae was also injured, even more so than his captain whose natural healing was better than his, thus he had gauze on almost every visible surface even his face.
The men walked in silence down the sterile white hall, Yun knew that Desmae had something to say and wasn't just here to walk with him and he even knew what that was but he would let the man bring it up if he wished, he on the other hand had no interest. Meanwhile the kittens had begun singing a song in the back of his head, they had rebounded rather quickly after the loss but even they seemed to realize now was not the time to make a scene and had kept their playing to the inside of his mind instead of outwardly annoying people. It was when Desmae and Yun crossed the barrier to the outside world as the hydraulic doors to the Crypt opened before them that the other man finally spoke up.
“You have not come to see Hikaru since they stabilized her.” He said calmly though Yun could read people well and knew he had strained to keep his words cool.
“Is there any reason to?” Yun responded with indifference.
That irked Desmae and it was obvious he had to bite back a retort, “You should at least let her know the situation if you are going through with this!”
Yun looked at the man with an incredulous stare as if that was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard, “She's in a coma Desmae, she can't hear, and so she doesn't care.”
He could tell he had left the larger man flabbergasted and used the opportunity to put some distance between them and head for the entrance. Admitted there wasn't much of an entrance left anymore, the remnants of the tower were still smoking not two hundred meters from where he stood and when it had been destroyed shooting shrapnel in every direction it had torn through the walls of Tenth Division. The outer walls were near nonexistent with only a few portions still standing, the fountains and rock gardens set up around the division were in shambles and huge chunks of debris littered the mustering grounds in front of the HQ where more than five-thousand shinigami had stood less than a week ago, though the bodies were gone there were still signs of that as well, dozens of hundreds having been killed or injured as bus sized hail fell leaving large pools of now dried blood here and there that had yet to be cleaned.
The only buildings that still stood were the lethality stone structures of the central HQ, they could not be so easily destroyed by physical means though the storage building had caved in partially. It was a mess even though days had passed, but almost three quarters of the divisions members were either dead or receiving medical care so there was little that could be done, those who were left were the ones who had been inside...that is to say researchers and tacticians, not the sort of people you use to clean up a mess. It annoyed Yun greatly that his had been the only division to suffer direct damage to structural integrity like this but then he had nobody to blame but himself for building the tower so close, still it was near impossible to fathom someone being strong enough to destroy it so easily even now after it had happened.
Back to the current situation Desmae had finally caught up next to his captain and was glowering at him. For a moment the phantom of a small black kitten materialized on Yuns shoulder, looked at the larger man and stuck out its tongue before disappearing back into the recesses of Yuns mind. The duo stepped over a massive pillar that had once held up one of the pavilions and made their way to remnants of the entrance which was in fact little more than the fifteen feet of remaining wall with a dented red door stuck in it. Yun reached out to grip the handle but the moment he did it cracked off its hinges and fell to the ground with a bang. Yun reached up to his face and held it in his hand, that was the fifteenth time that had happened...he was starting to think they just didn't need a door anymore.
“This is wrong!”
“What are you talking about this time Desmae?” Yun asked offhand without looking up.
“You're just replacing her!”
“Well thats because she's not doing us much good in a catatonic state right? And I need someones help if I'm going to see this set-back erased in a timely fashion.” At that moment he looked up and his face grew entertained at something he could see but Desmae who had yet to round the corner could not.
“HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT...” he growled a little after and then added, “But even if its true you should have picked someone from the division, this is dishonorable, outsiders especially from trickster divisions like 2nd and 6th are not to be trusted. Even if the commander general su-”
At just that moment Desmae had rounded the corner and stopped with abrupt horror as he saw what Yun was now watching with a smirk of bemusement, had seen all along. Before them was the Commander General Kazuma Irashi, his now solo vice-captain Kuatura Katayama who was still bearing his losses visually via a serious mood quite unfitting him and a small-figured raven haired girl whom it didn't take a genius to figure out whom it was. Desmae wheeled around, pointed at the door as if to suggest he was going to go do something about that and then quickly disappeared out of sight. When he was gone Yun looked up at the sun for a moment and then faced the trio.
“You're early.” Was all he said.
“I apologize, with everything I've had to do I had to take what time I could get to bring her to you.” Kazuma said.
“Wasn't even really necessary, I should hope she could have found her own way if need be. But thank you for the sentiment.”
“You talking about sentiment? Did hell freeze over while I wasn't looking?” The commander general joked.
“A distinct possibility.” Yun deadpanned.
The men chuckled but it was clear both of them had been strained the last few days and they certainly weren't enjoying themselves. As if they both remembered her at the same time both turned to the girl while Kuatura did little more than stand behind them.
“Nagato Kasumi as of this day I am transferring you to the jurisdiction of 10th division under the command of Captain Saigotschuu Yun. I apologize that we could not undergo the traditional passage for high ranking members from one division to another but I am certain you can understand the situation. And with that I still have much to do, follow your new captain as well as you have followed your old leaders and you shall do fine.” Kazuma gave a reassuring smile and a pat on the shoulder to the new girl before turning around and walking off briskly.
Anyone here would probably have realized how much pressure the commander general was under and so to have come here to do this spoke volumes of his respect for Yun. The captain watched as the leader trotted off through the debris strewn field and past the ruins of what had been a senkaimon gate to Hueco Mundo. Once they were a considerable distance away and Yun had ceased his musings he turned his eyes on the girl, he had lost any facial expression and was purely neutral but his red eyes could pierce the soul and this effect was doubled when he reached up to his face and pressed the small pair of sunglasses that were actually part of his zanpaktou farther up the bridge of his nose. Just when things were starting to get awkward after a long drawn out silence he spoke...and made it perhaps even more awkward.
“Welcome to 10th Division. Come with me. Oh...and you aren't a vice-captain yet.”
He turned his back on her and walked through the doorless doorway back into the realm of the Outer Defense.
