So I was thinking of ways to keep the site active, and an idea occurred to me. The reason lots of RP's never pan out is because the characters involved have nothing to do with each other. By-and-large the majority of our characters are stand-alone, each involved in their own little integrated story and heading toward their own goal. While this works at making each unique it also means that they quite often don't mesh with one another, this manifests in poor muse on the writers parts because any interaction the characters have beyond fighting one another comes across as unnatural.
Meanwhile some of the most consistently active topics are the ones based around groups of characters who were crafted from the ground-up to interact predominantly with one another. There are several other examples but for this case I will use Jager and Richard, from the very start we planned for them to be enemies and now their posts flow at a consistent rate. Not only that but because they were meant to live in the same “world” from the outset their conversations/feelings come across as far more genuine than two radically different characters that were crafted from completely different thought processes.
And so as you might have figured out I've got a possible idea for how we might circumnavigate this. Compilation characters. In other words, two or more members get together and plan a group of characters who fit together before they even go into the RP. We decide what kind of relationships they will have; will they be friends, will they be enemies, lovers, etc? And we don't just leave it at vague lines like that, we plan their futures out in a good bit of depth and plan for them to interact with each other on a regular basis. They can still interact with other BS-core characters, they are simply built from the start to have logical and meaningful connections with the other characters built in their social circle.
I've got more to say about it, but that's the gist and I want to see what the boards response is before further wasting time. Tell me what you think about this idea.
