The Captain of Tenth Division stood perfectly still in the center of a large lake staring down at the “ground” beneath his feet, as he was floating on top of the water. Directly behind him was a large waterfall that twisted high into the plateau that towered above everything else, all around traditional Soul Society structured forest and grass plains could be seen but Yun had chosen this place in the event his calculations had been correct.
He had once seen a captain of Second Division utilize a speed even greater than his, so powerful that the energy it produced could actually be used offensively. While he was usually to busy to train, his zanpaktou and his own pride had long called understanding this ability, whatever it was, a necessity. The reason of course being that Yun had long prided himself on being fast beyond measure, perhaps not the fastest shinigami ever but certainly one of the fastest you might find at the moment. However after a recent incident in which his senses had utterly failed him and his speed couldn’t make up the difference he had decided he was losing his edge and it was time to stop being the all talk Captain of the Division and actually get better. So ever since then he had been working tirelessly to figure out what sort of energy quantities were needed and where they needed to be applied to be effective, with that knowledge now in hand he had come to this place to begin.
The water rippled and moments later a white masked creature burst out racing toward Yun, he didn’t even have to look at it to spin around its backside and allow it to sale harmlessly through the air crashing back into the water. As the creature splashed into the water it soaked Yun to the core due to its size, thankfully he had already removed his jacket and undershirt since his calculations had indicated they might be ruined once he figured out what the hell he was doing. The creatures head popped out of the water and he felt another one behind him as they lunged but he gracefully got out of the way just as easily as before. These things were false hollows the 12th Division had cooked up. He often found he did his best under pressure and while the false hollows would barely have given a seated member trouble and hardly moved in Yuns vision they were still jacked up in power from the usual student education hollows and so provided the necessary motivation to stay on the move regardless.
As they both went slamming into the water once more he heard an excited gasp from behind him and looking around he spotted a member of the Gotei 13 who was peeking around a rock on the shore, just as quickly someone else reached from behind the rock and pulled him out of sight. Yun might have found it funny if he had been thinking about anything else at the moment. However as there were about thirty people surrounding him currently and they tried to stay out of his vision despite being painfully obvious he could do nothing but sigh and go back to what he was doing. As soon as they had started showing up he had taken the stance that if he ignored them they’d just go away…it wasn’t working. He knew seeing a captain training was something pretty rare for most members of the Gotei 13 but he didn’t like being gawked at, still he wasn’t going to bother running them off so he just ignored their presence. He had heard a few murmurs of confusion since what exactly he was doing wasn’t particularly obvious but he supposed if they stuck around long enough they might find out…though that also made it their damned fault if they got hurt.
Energy was being pushed into his back and shoulder blades but he was honestly feeling nothing. He had theorized that the technique, which he had learned the few people in the history of Soul Society who had learned it called Shunko, utilized a mixture of kido, his own shunpo and simple skill with ones body but the effects were not coming as quickly as he had hopes. Sure he had not expected to master the maneuver in a single try but with his expertise in kido, speed and control he had not expected manipulating the energies into a propelling form to prove so difficult. He sent multiple waves through his shoulders and while there was a buzzing blue energy that formed over that area whenever you massed energy in an area all it did was create a sort of minor shield before dissipating, not nearly enough thrust was added to increase his speed or be sent out in an offensive manner. He stood still in the center of the lake once more with his hand on his chin considering possibilities when he wheeled around sensing a new approach, when his eyes set on the oncoming individual he made no visual cue as to his feelings one way or another.
“What are you doing here?” he asked plainly.
Suddenly the water rippled behind him and a white masked false hollow jumped out at him. Without turning away from the new arrival he raised his arm behind him, his hand burned a bright red and then a ripple of reiatsu fired back as the construction was pummeled by a series of red fire shots. Wind kicked up and the false hollow was cut in half, both its pieces flying across the lake and clearing its edge slamming into a boulder splintering the massive rock along its edges before it tumbled to the ground. Just a bit later two of the members who had been watching from behind that rock cleared out and waving to him as if they were trying to be friendly quietly pulled farther away from the area after their close encounter. Yun had let his vision twist a bit over his shoulder to view the scene.
“Jeez…didn’t want to break it, oh well there are others.”
