I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on a short story competition. We have tried other little game competitions in the past but they've never proceeded out of the planning stages because, lets face it, we aren't big and those previous ideas required a ton of work for little input. However this is an idea that I think would work quite well, this would be a clever way to get people to interact but not require a hundred people to make it work.
As the name suggest it would involve everyone involved writing a short story. We would vote on a genre/premise behind everyone's stories (not restrictive limits, but enough so that they weren't excessively different and impossible to compare) and then everyone who signs-up would have a month to write a story that had to be under so many words (initial thoughts are under 2000 but I'm still thinking). The limit is so when it comes time to vote people will actually spend the time to read the stories, sure writing a 100000 word story might be fun but its not good when your trying to get people who have their own lives to read them en-masse. Once all stories were submitted (via PM to me), we would begin a bracket competition or rather the “1 Vs. 2” style until two final competitors were left facing off. Then IMAGINARY INTERNET COOKIES FOR THE WINNER... because the honor in knowing you beat everyone else just isn't good enough for you kids these days.
Assuming it works well we might do it again in the future, I say this with the thought that this just seems more likely to work than other concepts we've put forward.
So thats the idea. Post your thoughts here, if your interested sign-up (just say you are) and put your vote toward what genre we might use (Fantasy, Sci-fi, or even something more unlikely that would really force us to think outside of the box (OH!!! AND NO BLEACH SHORT-STORIES...might as well be posting on the main site if thats all your good for).
Good luck, hope to hear from you soon.
