Makkuro's eyebrow simply cocked a bit in the cold resignation of the battle to come and saw his opponent for what he was. A simple brute whose entire form of combat revolved solely on his massive strength. He moved to the side of the blade as it came down watching the Arrancar for a moment tilting his head to the side as he examined his features trying to identify him for any of the wanted Arrancar on the list, then took another step back. He doubted he could tire out the brute, but for now a little exercise in examining how the beast fought was necessary.
"I've sure you've heard the same words hundreds of times Abelardo, but my emotions are not something that will changed so quickly or easily. A man can still have compassion for his comrades and mourn them, I let anger over take me for a moment. Oh well, they will be grieved for and I will weep even as I eviscerate you and lift your rotting carcass into the air for all of Soul Society to spit upon.
Shaking some blood from his saber, Makkuro eyed Abelardo once more and leaped away moving his hand into place as he said the incantation. "Swarm of locusts devour the endless plain! Hado 47 Gaki Rekko!" Pointing his hand down upon the arrancar's location, he grunted as the hado burst forth from his hand firing eight beams of green reitsu toward the target in a bell shape.

Due to the reiatsu-disrupting fog that shrouded, the area, reports from the team of scouts that were sent earlier to investigate the pulses of energy that were detected earlier were delayed. By the time word of Squad Three was suffering heavy casualties from the hyena-like hollows, and Squad Two could begin to move out to send some much needed backup, much of the fighting was already over unfortunately but that didnt stop Captain Azuka from moving posthaste with a contingent of his Executive Militia bodyguards. It wasn't too long before the Squad Two forces had to pause and take cover when the massive explosion erupted from their destination sending a resounding shockwave of force that would be felt throughout most of Rukongai. The silence that followed was eerie, but it was clear that whatever had caused the blast was dead and failed to take out all of its intended targets but did however succeed in instantly obliterating every innocent soul caught nearby. Reckless destruction with no regard for innocent lives lost, if the monster responsible for the carnage were still alive, Tsuno would personally have giving his everything to avenge the lives lost.
Upon arriving at the crater in which stood Captain Shiboo and the arrancar, Captain Azuka ordered his men to remain undetected and spread out around the disaster zone to attempt containing the opponent so he wouldn't flee as easily. Tsuno himself remained hidden until he saw his injured peer Makkuro reach out and stop the massive blunted slab of metal with his hand. Impressive, but not extraordinary considering that Tsuno would have probably done the same had he arrived a few moments sooner. Upon firing his hado, Tsuno deactivated his concealing bakudo, and appeared about thirty feet behind Abelardo, sword drawn and prepared to strike. In range of Makkuro's vision and in the arrancar's blind spot, hopefully he'd still have the element of surprise if the fog was able to obscure his presence at that range.

Abelardo cocked his eye in amusement, as he heard the captain’s words. “You’re correct, I’ve heard some variation of that quite a lot in my lifetime, and I highly doubt that you’re going to be one to live up to your claims.” He had no intention of putting in more effort than needed, not until he saw what the captain was really capable of – he must have noticed that an ordinary slash wouldn’t get past his hierro, so the question was what did he have in mind to counter that?
When the captain jumped away, and began a kido incantation, Abelardo wasn’t particularly surprised; Plateris had a vulnerability to reiatsu, so it made sense to assume that he had the same weakness. Of course e wasn’t anywhere near as weak as the gigantic worm was, but the captain likely had no better options, considering that his shikai didn’t seem to be the best at piercing. It was for the best though, as it meant that he could focus on the threat behind him. Really, that girl was supposed to be taking care of this…..
Abelardo pivoted himself on one leg, a sphere of red reiatsu surrounding his left fist. As the new captain came closer, he spun sideways, opening his fist and thrusting forward, a large bala shooting forward at the apparently second division captain. In the same motion, his sword swung sideways, boosted by the centrifugal force and his already massive strength, smashing away the majority of the reiatsu beams, only getting grazed by the rest, which once again, did no damage outside of tearing his clothes a bit.
“So you’re the new captain…still not the one we’re looking for, but those two really didn’t fit the stealth vibe, too headstrong.”
Abelardo would have continued, but he felt a familiar presence wash over him, and simultaneously felt the reiatsu of the hidden shinigami vanish. So she was moving again, not that the other captains would likely notice – not as long as their reiatsu disruptors were at work. It was probably for the best, he really doubted that either of them wanted to see how that girl was when she got going. He would be doing them a favor by ending things before she changed her mind about them being worthless.
A blue aura of reiatsu erupted from Abelardo, his reiatsu raising high enough that even with the reiatsu disruption, they could feel the captain level reiatsu, as the arrancar raised his sword high, that reitasu all focusing in the blade, before Abelardo vanished, reappearing a few feet behind Makkuro with a monstrous swing down, the ground already breaking apart from the sheer weight, the reiatsu coating the blade ripping forward in a gigantic blade shaped beam, easily carrying forward enough to each Tsuno on the other side.
-
Standing on a faraway building, the girl stood, a small lend in her hand, watching Abelardo start to put I some effort. “That idiot, playing with the garbage…..” She absently flicked some blood off her blade, the remnants of her doing some housekeeping herself. She was getting tired of this, but someone had to make sure that they didn’t get snuck up on. Maybe there were some other shinigami lying around that she missed; while they were worth nothing as far as a fight, they were fun to practice on.

When the squad two Captain appeared right behind the massive Arrancar, Makkuro gave a small snort grateful for the help, but at the same time wishing the man hadn't arrived. Now that he had his bankai wouldn't be nearly as efficient as it could be, but none the less the help was appreciated. "Azuka, leave this fight to me. You and your men should go search for this one's companion; I heard him speaking to what sounded like a female." Makkuro shouted out, just as he saw what he thought was the biggest load of crap in his life.
The Arrancar's body turned on a dime and even through the reitsu dampening fog realized that the squad two Captain was coming at him. The slab of steel the creature called a sword pounded away the green beams of reitsu and let not a scratch on him aside from tearing his clothing. Makkuro shot backwards after that into the mist of the fog about them and situated himself on the ground with Azuka still in sight, he figured the behemoth must be twisting around to smash him, Makkuro called out to Azuka yelling. "Stick to Kido unless your Zanpakuto has a very high penetration right!" A sudden burst of reitsu stopped him short at penetration as he turned to see the monster hovering over him, his reitsu blazing as he began to swing his sword down. Makkuro only responded by closing the gap between the pair as he looked up. The gap closed, the behemoth's blade couldn't touch him. Makkuro's body froze for a moment, before he slid between the beast's legs and came up on the other side panting for a moment as he held his sword back into a fencing postion, then let himself calm down.
"Alright Abelardo, so your fast as well. You've gotten some dense Hierro as well, no matter I have a solution for that." Makkuro kept himself in a defensive posture as his blade began to glow green and fill up with his reitsu. Bankai wasn't an option just yet, he wanted to make sure that he had enough strength left to fight whatever else might be out there should anything come up. Keeping the flow of Reitsu channeling into his blade, he used shunpo to appear beside Azuka.
"Hey, Azuka you alright?" Makkuro questioned quickly as he held his blade ready to defend at any moment as he looked back down at his fighting partner. "I don't suppose you want to release your shikai do you? Might make this fight a tad bit easier unless it's one of those blow up the world shikai's I keep hearing about or one of those levels everything around you ones." Makkuro teased trying to make the situation seem more bareable than what it was. The pair was stuck out in the middle of a battleground, no way to contact anyone without getting rid of this damn fog and apprently the creature they were fighting was at or above their level. Though above seemed highly unlikely.
"So, seeing as your the stealth ops guy and you've been at this longer than I have, perhaps you've got some sort of plan for this bastard?" His voice was resigned to whatever would come next, if he didn't have a plan then they'd just have to wing it. Otherwise, well whatever happened happened.
Something else was ticking in the back of his mind though, like a faint buzz that was making him want to rush out of this fog and lash out at something...or someone. The buzzing was increasing nawing at the back of his brain like mosquito would his skin. The buzz felt cold and dark, blood thirsty and savage. Everything that Makkuro despised was in that buzz and it was driving him crazy.
"Azuka do you feel it to?"

While he was not one to panic whenever the enemy had an advantage, a small grunt of discontent was unavoidable when despite attacking from out of sight, the enemy arrancar was still able to detect the ambushing captain through the fog. The bala fired in his direction was fast, but not instant and Tsuno was able to roll midair as he lunged towards the large opponent, only to find his zanpakuto deflected off of the massive metal club. Moving with his own kinetic energy, Tsuno continued his motion and flipped overtop of Abelardo and landed on the other side next to Makkuro.
"Shiboo, my men stationed nearby have been ordered to maintain communication through the fog and are quite talented at remaining hidden, so they'll be able to assist us without even being detected if all goes according to plan."
While the female arrancar was certainly a factor to be concerned about, finding her would prove difficult in the fog as long as this Abelardo was going to be flaring his reiatsu, not only disruption attempts to search for reiatsu but also simply making a tough fight one-on-one. Once he was finished then finding the girl would be a far easier task. The hidden operatives nearby were organized into five teams of six members each, and would utilize certain kido techniques in order to remain hidden and search the area. Four would focus on maintaining a barrier to remain hidden from sight and reitatsu detection, one would utilize Summoning of the Tracking Sparrows and another for Heavenly Rickshaws in Silken Air to search the area and attempt communication with entire group over a distance, though the fog was making that seem unlikely to be all too effective. Unfortunately, it seemed that one of the teams was already found and wiped out, but the remaining four teams would be far more difficult, if not impossible to find if lucky.
"I was preferring if the two of us could work together to concentrate our strength and narrow down the enemy numbers quickly instead of leaving you alone against this tank while I play hide-and-seek with his friend. She shouldn't be able to locate anyone if they do manage to keep their barriers strong."
As Makkuro and Abelardo began exchanging blows and avoiding one another, Tsuno kept his distance attempting to study his opponent's fighting stance and pattern, but it something was making his concentration off-focus. It wasn't that his teammate was having a hard time keeping his mouth shut either, it was clear that whatever was happening, Makkuro felt it too, or else he wouldn't have said anything about it. Tsuno couldn't help but feel that whatever barbaric reiatsu was in the air was not going to be pleasant, and he was hoping it wouldn't impair his ability to think while simultaneously acting with lightning-fast instinct but was willing to test it out by releasing his zanpakuto and joining in the battle more directly.
"Whistle, Lotomasa!"
Tsuno was aware that his shikai was not as effective at piercing thick armor at range, but in close proximity his sickles in their single-blade mode was ideal for the sort of deep penetration that tough hierro called for. Swinging the weapon around on a short chain for momentum and power, Tsuno attempted to slash into Abelardo but was forced to keep his distance when his weapon was deflected by a massive energy blast that nearly caught the second squad captain off guard and brushed by his arm, incinerating parts of his clothing and leaving a rather unpleasant numbing burn on his elbow.
"I'm alright, try to keep his attention divided and we should be able to outmaneuver his attacks. He's powerful, but very direct. If we take turns distracting and attacking, we'll end this soon enough."
He didn't like the idea that his opponent was able to use access such powerful attacks utilizing raw energy alone, but he had a few ideas up his sleeve. Abelardo seemed able to access great strength or speed, but neither at the same time as his attacks required he ground himself and focus all of his energy instead of balancing himself out. Hopefully the two captains would be able to use that against him, especially if Tsuno was able to make proper use of one of his trump cards. In order to test how the arrancar would fare against his strongest hado, Tsuno started off by trying a few shots with his lower fire spells, sending a pair of short fiery blasts his way with his level 43 Ryuiki hado. If they managed to prove in the least bit effective, then hopefully he'd be able to be pinned in place as he'd eventually move up to his more powerful Ryudoki spell or even past that if necessary.

Abelardo was starting to feel some interest in this battle; while neither captain had done anything to even scratch him, they were doing a remarkable job of avoiding his attacks so far, and while he had no hopes for the 3rd Division captain, the other might be of more interest – the second division was supposed to be the trickiest in a fight, and his release looked like it might actually deal damage if he managed to get off a clean hit at close range. Clearly, he should focus his attention on him.
When the captain launched bolts of fire his way, he didn’t attempt to tank it this time, instead knocking the blasts away with a few well timed swings of his sword, before shifting to offense, charging at the ninja captain with a short burst of speed, sword flashing though the air in a barrage of slashes that while not on the level of his power swings, still had more than enough force behind them for the dull blade to slice through by sheer brute strength.
-
The girl was still watching the fight, either unable to detect the hidden shinigami, or simply not caring enough to move, preferring to pay attention to the escalating battle. Something did manage to draw her attention though; something important enough that even she couldn’t blow it off. While it wasn’t yet noticeable at the crater, at her distance, she could feel the fog starting to thin. Could someone have stumbled onto the source? She was about to go investigate further when she felt something else, which sparked her bloodlust, and caused her to make a bit of a detour – she had to tell Abelardo this.
-
Back at the crater, the two captains might have noticed that they were starting to get a better feel of Abelardo’s reiatsu, occasionally even when he wasn’t flaring it, even as the fog got gradually thinner – specifically, it thinned out slightly in one segment of the circle, leading out of the district, and at the times when they and Abelardo stood there, their sensing capabilities, while not at full strength, were markedly better than within the denser areas.
Abelardo himself felt the fog weakening, and also felt the pure bloodlust that was released soon after. Even as used as he was to that, it still gave him some chills to feel the fighting spirit of that girl….which was getting closer. He felt sorry for who set her off that much. The ominous reiatsu that both captains felt grew thicker, and more violent, even as neither could tell where it was coming from. There was no doubt that it was heading their way though, even as Abelardo made sure to keep Tsuno busy, only paying enough attention to Makkuro to respond to anything potentially dangerous.
Makkuro himself had his own issues to deal with. There was only a glint of light as warning, something that might be ignored as a reflection of light from one of the others’ swords, when the flash flew right at his left shoulder. Whether or not he reacted to it, the mystery flash was gone as fast as it struck, whether or not it managed to draw blood. The murderous intent hanging in the air from before was suddenly much closer to him, as the flash from before shot out from the fog, this time curving and slashing at him repeatedly, bending unpredictably to bypass defenses and carve flesh, as the attacks came from all angles.
“What are you doing here Caroline? And why are my posts getting destroyed?”
The girl walked out of the dense fog nonchalantly, still flicking her whipblade at Makkuro. “Same reason for both, one of our targets chose to show. And it’s the angry one too.” She rubbed at a fresh patch of darker red on her dress, even while try to rip Makkuro a new one. “And since you’re busy with these two, I get first dibs unless you hurry it up.”
Abelardo would have rolled his eyes if he wasn’t otherwise engaged. “Too late for that.”
The air was suddenly filled with a raging reiatsu, somewhat similar to Abelardo’s before his slash of reiatsu from before, with a few differences; it was coming from above, and more importantly, it was a very familiar feeling, aimed at the giant. For his part, Abelardo dug his feet into the earth, body glowing and completely ignoring anything Tsuno might try – he doubted that the captain could break his reinforced hierro, and he likely wouldn’t try anyway, not with the new arrival about to impact. He raised his blade high, as a large red and violet object crashed into it, demolishing the ground beneath him and sending slabs of earth and dust into the air, clouding Abelardo and twenty feet around him.
The dust settled, as the rocks rained about the clearing, giving Makkuro some solace as Caroline was forced to dodge falling debris. Of course, both captains had the same problem to deal with, but at least they wouldn’t be struck by a random whipblade for a few moments. Back at the latest impact zone, a burst of reiatsu cleared the dust away, revealing Abelardo standing at the bottom of a small crater, his slab of a sword holding up against Rin’s own zanpakuto with little but a few cracks where the blades met.
“Which one of you two killed all of those people?”
“Killed? I’m sure that I left all of them barely alive, I only cut them enough to nearly bleed out; we needed them living enough to impale them.” Ever helpful, Caroline filled in the shinigami on the details. “They sure screamed a lot though, especially when I cut some of them too much. Really, they were all so fragile! At least that group of shinigami who arrived from before held up better, I was worried that we didn’t have enough people to disguise the – whoops, temper, temper.”
Caroline easily avoided the slash Rin sent her way, whipblade keeping her away. “Anyway, to answer your question, I’m quite sure you killed them when you cut them down. With how much this fog cleared, you cut down how many, a hundred? Two? Talk about your serial killers….”
With that, Caroline quickly vacated the scene, although her presence was still faintly detectable, clearly waiting for anyone to follow her.
“Divide and conquer huh?” Rin’s voice was as calm as always, but only an idiot wouldn’t be able to feel the extreme amount of rage she was giving off. For the two captains, they were likely getting an understanding of why almost everyone in her division was so scared senseless of getting on her bad side…..
“I’ll deal with her; you two can kill that guy.” And she was gone as fast as she had arrived, but at least that was one less worry. Abelardo on the other hand, was rubbing a small cut on his forehead. The damage could be seen as a good or bad thing; it was proof that he wasn’t invincible, but he did just walk away from a head on, superpowered slash from the sharpest blade in soul society with a minor scratch and cracked blade.
“She thinks that you two can win? Well then, she must know something I don’t.” His reiatsu was spiking again, as he raised his blade high. “Show me your power!” This time, instead of one gigantic blast, it split into five separate waves, all five homing in on Tsuno, before two broke away and curved towards Makkuro.

Makkuro looked up for a second a bit shocked by the sudden turn of events and the feeling of reitsu coming back through his senses. Something...doesn't feel right though... Makkuro thought before his eyes cut to the right at a sudden burst of murderous intent and his shield went up deflecting whatever that beam of light was that shot toward him. The noise that followed him assured him that whatever just struck him was made of steel. He sighed momentarily and jerked his head a bit to get Tsuno's attention.
"That would be our second one." He said nonchantly as he absentmindedly deflected each blow, uninterested in the girl for the moment as Abelardo seemed like the more pressing concern. The blows stung a little bit on his arm when each struck his shield but they were light enough to ignore. Meanwhile he was listening in to the pairs conversation and moved out of Caroline's attack range after becoming annoyed with the whip blade that she insisted on swinging.
"They sound like an old married couple...."
Meuma said to his partner while Makkuro merely stood there, trying not look mortified as he listened to the pair. He had to admit himself that their shouting back and forth did seem like something a married couple would do, but oh well not the time to worry about such things. His Piston attack was charged up to maximum and he could use a Horuken to soften up that barrier rather nicely. Nodding over to Tsuno agreeing with what he said.
"I have a special hado for this bastard." Makkuro answered quickly back as he saw Rin come from the side and strike down at Abelardo, the sudden blow from Abelardo into the grow brought up thick slabs of Earth falling to the ground, Makkuro didn't move instead, he twisted around piercing one of the slabs on his blade and spun slinging the object like a childs toy back toward Caroline, but she and Rin had already moved out of his line of fire by the time he got around to it. Sweat was beading up on Makkuro's near naked body, he glistened in the light of the region and sighed as he drew his blade up toward Abelardo once more.
"I'm sure we'll be more than enough for you to handle." Makkuro was already contemplating on how to use the cut to his advantage. A weak point was a weak point after all and any chink an a piece of armor, would soon make the rest of it crumble. Then the waves of energy came and Makkuro sighed once more before taking to the air via shunpo and came back down, the tattered remains of his garments flailing due to the speed of the travel. He fell from there as he pointed his sword toward Abelardo, then slashed wide releasing a fully charged Piston tsukisasu toward the cut on the Arrancar's face and his lower body.

It would have seemed that the Second Squad Captain's fire hado was not proving to be very effective as he had hoped for, when Abelardo managed to simply swat the bursts of flame away with his oversized metal slab of a sword. This of course wasn't too unexpected given that the target could probably have simply held the giant weapon in front of him and got away with only a few singed knuckles, but the fact that he had also began to charge offensively at Tsuno was bothersome. Why did enemies have to adapt their tactics as soon as their opponent recognizes their old pattern?
The large dull sword swung dangerously close to the captain, but most of the attacks were able to be dodged by the smaller and much more nimble combatant. Still, a few strokes had to be parried which was not necessarily an easy task given the shape of Lotomasa's shikai form, but managable thanks to Tsuno's own formidable body strength. Via nonverbal command, Tsuno was able to alter his zanpakuto's single-bladed sickles into triple-blades ones more akin to a grappling hook that were able to catch and divert most of Abelardo's strength but there still was a considerable amount of strain put on his lightweight body and was knocked back several dozen feet before skidding to a halt after another few more. This was very inconvenient for Tsuno, while he was able to slightly alter the shape of his shikai for defensive or offensive preferences, the transition time left him too open where the arrancar only needed to adjust his own flow of reiatsu to fortify either his hierro or his zanpakuto as he felt fit.
Luckily, the fog in the area was seeming to disperse and Tsuno was starting to pick up reiatsu faint readings from all over the surrounding area thanks to his agents' communication grid. While the effectiveness of their kido grid was still heavily impaired, one prominent signature showed up as clear as the sun. The female arrancar revealed herself and shortly after, so did Shimizu Rin. The Thirteenth Division Captain dropped from the sky like a guillotine from heaven and collided with Abelardo's weapon creating a backlash of energy unlike anything Tsuno had felt from a shikai in a very long time, and then proceeded to give chase in pursuit of Caroline who had made a break for it after some taunting banter that would have done nothing good for anyone who got in Rin's way given her volatile nature.
When Abelardo's energy had spiked again, Tsuno was prepared for an attack coming his way seeing as the large arrancar had appeared to consider him a more dangerous threat than Makkuro. Hopefully, the Third Division Captain would take this opportunity to take the enemy off guard so he'd be forced to redirect his focus and give Tsuno the opportunity he needed to prepare his attack. Three of five homing waves of energy coming his way after two diverted to Makkuro, who had seemed to be preparing to exploit the wounds already sustained from Rin's devastatingly mighty attack. As the three waves came closing in on Tsuno, the Second Division Captain vanished from sight using shunpo but they quickly redirected and continued hunting down their mark with a disturbingly sentient determination that was luckily unable to keep up entirely with their prey. Despite relocating several times in what must have in reality been under a second or two, one of the waves did manage to clip Tsuno's ankle which caused him to falter and get struck a second time slicing his bicep though the third and final wave was cusioned dead in its tracks by a highly pressurized burst of reiatsu released from the captain's palm which only left a stinging papercut sized injury.
Though superficially unsuccessful considering that all three attacks did hit him eventually, to that end Tsuno had managed to use his evasive maneuvers in order to distance himself from Abelardo and force him to focus on Makkuro who had began launching a head-on charge against the arrancar. With this added distance, Tsuno was able to concentrate for a moment to communicate with his partner via the active Heavenly Rickshaws in Silken Air to remind him to keep the enemy distracted and be ready to escape the moment Tsuno launched his next attack. From afar, Captain Azuka began charging his reiatsu into his fingertips and reciting the incantation to unleash his most destructive hado spell.
"Hail Great spirit, creator of life, destroyer of souls. Boundless as the night sky, never ending flame of our unwavering faith in justice. Two paths to chose, two variations of our true destiny. Watch over us righteous and purge the sinners with your never ending flame!"
While proceeding to maintain his focus as he began moving in close to land a direct hit, Tsuno appeared behind Abelardo's back.
"Hado number eighty, Kyoubou Hou-ou!"
From Tsuno's fingertips, a small spark ignited that floated lazily behind the arrancar for a split second before expanding into a magnificient fireball feeding on that rich surplus of energy that Abelardo had been throwing around so much of. Before the spark could explode violently, Tsuno disappeared faster than he had arrived to land the dangerous attack out of caution that this firestorm could easily take himself down if he wasn't careful.

“Come on angry samurai, you can do better than that!” The pink clothed captain marched forward, deflecting the rampant whip strikes, but it seemed that Caroline was one agile arrancar, continuously dashing back and using that ridiculously long blade of hers to try to get in a lucky shot. It was more frustrating than anything, especially since her blood was screaming for her to snap off that psycho’s head and – “Hey, what happened to the redhead? Someone randomly killed him? Or you two had a lover’s spat?” The ground started to shake as Rin’s eyes narrowed even more. Caroline of course noticed this and seized the moment. “Oh? So what happened? Boyfriend said the wrong thing and you gutted him? I knew you had a volatile temper, but that’s just insane! And Abelardo talks about me…” She vanished in a burst of sonido, landing on top of a skyscraper. “There’s that spark! Why is it that I have to go through all of this to get you to fight properly? Where’s your warrior pride?!” Caroline had more to say, but she was interrupted by a sudden loss of footing, as the building she was standing on split in two vertically. “Son of a bitch!” ------------------------------------- Abelardo was using the two captain’s distraction with his homing bursts to consider his position. One of their targets had shown, and had apparently become chickified, if all the pink on her said anything. While normally it would disturb and disgust him, said woman nearly cleaved him in two, despite him being at full defense. Not only did she crack his sword, a feat no one had ever accomplished, she cut him, and it was apparently pretty deep since he was still bleeding. He had no idea that you could bleed so much from your forehead; as it was, there was a danger that it might affect his sight if blood went the wrong way, and now he had to use a hand to play keep away with his own bodily fluids. Just when did that woman get the super sword anyway? “Bloody sharp as hell sword, good thing she’s harassing Caroline.” And now, the French captain was coming at him, with a decently strong blast of wind. He really wasn’t concerned about it piercing his hierro, and he just ignored the attack, choosing to keep track of the ninja captain as he dashed around, trying to evade the energy – “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!” Pain. Indescribable pain filled his head, as a few bursts of the wind attack slipped past his fingers, and into the wound. It was like he had no defenses, allowing the attack to tear open the wound even more! If his hand wasn’t there.....he might have died to an overemotional guy like that! The blast only affected that particular area though, bouncing off the rest of his body, so it wasn’t an effect of his move. That left the angry samurai. “Just what is up with the woman’s sword!” Abelardo was clearly not reacting well to being truly injured – he was used to pain of course, but not so much at once, nothing was ever capable of piercing his hierro so completely. In a calmer state of mind, he would have remembered to focus on Tsuno, but now, his sole goal was to rip the French captain apart, and between the two homing blasts still moving about, and his own full speed, he was going to do it. He had managed to move two steps before he felt the burst of flame on his back. The explosion of flame easily engulfed him, and the ground started to crack and melt from the heat, just before the entire area went up in its second fiery explosion. ----------------------------------- The rush of heat was noticeable even where Rin was, as the plume of fire extended into the sky. From the feel of it, Tsuno just used that napalm kido of his. “It looks like your muscle just died.” She was standing in front of a large pile of rubble, all that was left of the building she sliced in two. People always thought that running away was enough to avoid her….. now she had to wait for Caroline’s dramatic re-entry, since she knew better than to believe that she would die from just that. And as expected, one of the larger pieces of building came flying at her, and was split into two smaller halves pretty much instantly, the chunks breaking apart to dust in midair as they flew past her. “Just what are those three doing over there?” Caroline was mildly concerned about Abelardo – not that she didn’t think him capable of handling himself, but the man didn’t know his limits at times. Just how did he get caught in whatever that was anyway? “Tch, I’ll bail him out later. First though, I’m going to get a good fight out of you if I have to beat it out!” The whipblade went flying again, this time swinging so fast that it was a blur of movement, forcing Rin on the defensive, as the blade cut at her arms and legs – how often did you have to defend against a weapon like that anyway? “Come on! When we first met that aura of cold blooded murder you had promised a real battle, but you’ve become soft!” ------------------------------------- As Makkuro came to a stop within the familiar area where the hyena hollows struck, he felt the conflicting reiatsu signatures of both Rin and Caroline relatively close by, albeit gradually moving away as the two fought. He also would have felt the far more prominent reiatsu of Abelardo, body cloaked in fire, as the giant single-mindedly chased after him, his reiatsu being consumed by Tsuno’s devastating hado. Even as he walked, the nearby fog and building started to catch on fire, as the hado consumed all the reiatsu it could get, raising the risk of the entire district going up in flames. Even more disturbing though, was the fact that Abelardo’s reiatsu, which was gradually dropping, suddenly spiked upwards, as the flames started to change colour…… “Emmolate, Caballero infierno!” The entire area exploded in a blast of blue flame, drowning up the remnants of Tsuno’s hado and engulfing the area in intense heat that seemed all the fiercer, as if Abelardo’s pure rage was fuelling it. In the midst of the raging flames, a monstrous figure could be seen, standing in Abelardo’s position. Not that Makkuro had time to observe him properly, as a stream of blue flames shot out from the monster’s mouth, streaking across the streets and with easily enough power to cause some serious burns if it connected. -------------------------------- The area was once again bathed in a powerful reiatsu, as another pillar of fire shot into the air, about 40 meters from their location. This time though, it cast a blue glow across the city, and the anger it was throwing out was enough to make Rin wary, and she wasn’t even near the source. “Hmm, so it begins. Let’s not get overshadowed by that lughead, huh?” The whip cut forward again, but this time Rin simply grabbed the tip, ignoring the deep slice that the blade put in her palm as she dragged the weapon, and Caroline forward, jumping after her to impale the arrancar on her blade. Caroline didn’t agree with this, her hand glowing light blue as an orb of reiatsu charged, Caroline meeting Rin head on. ---------------------------------------------------- The streaks of energy from the cero were like a candle in the face of a wildfire, as the figure stepped out of the cloak of flame. It stood with a body that was completely covered in melting armor, blue flames streaking out of every ridge. The armor itself seemed to be shaping into a specific ethereal pattern from the heat of the flames, as drops of molten metal continuously fell to the ground, but the armor itself was keeping up its overall shape despite this. “To have forced me to this…..” His voice itself sounded almost hollow, as if it was just an echo. “Come out captains, and bring your full force, or drown in the hellfire of my being.” ((Note: Ignore the sword and shield in the pic))

Makkuro watched for a moment as he saw the hado take care of the Arrancar or so he thought as he hoped down from the blazing building and used a quick slash from his Zanpakuto to put the flames out. It was a simple matter all in all just produce a strong enough wind and everything else will solve itself. He sighed as he stood on a rooftop; relaxing a bit as he worried over Rin and thought about going to join her. Thats when one of those damnable waves struck his arm at full force making it go numb from pain as he sucked in arm rapidly. "Ahh son of a bitch!" It burned to his touch and he silently set about using the simple healing kido that had been taught to him to at least regain some control.
The reitsu spiked back up at that point along with a trail of blue flames soared toward him. Looking at it wide eyed for a moment, he jumped quickly sonidoing out of the way and out the other roof as he stared out at the monstricity before him. "So this is a release?" Having never actually seen an arrancar release before; Makkuro was curious about it, but it was the monster that killed his men that had released so he wasn't about to ask any questions.
"Maybe it's about time you used...that Hado." Meuma said to Makkuro quickly and Makkuro merely nodded.
"Fire didn't seem to do much to the bastard...I'm sure a bit of ice will be more effective in distorting his armor at least. However, I don't know enough about it to risk it right now. If bankai fails maybe." Makkuro replied simply as he communicated back to Tsuno quickly through the kido he had put up a bit ago.
"Hey, you might want to clear out of the area. My next two attacks are going to effect the entire area and you don't want to get caught in them. Especially not my bankai." Quickly explaining what his intentions were, Makkuro informed Tsuno that he planned to initiate his Bankai's most powerful technique which would create a twister in the surrounding area that would probably level most of the surrounding homes, but seeing as there was nothing there at the moment anyway and the burn damage had already ruined most of them; he doubted that it mattered. Instead, he just kept his eyes on the prize. The bastard's head clutched in his hand.
Taking care to examine everything about him Makkuro opened up his hand and began the incantation for Horuken. "Spiraling wells of energy, pierce and smash! Hado 62 Horuken!" appearing in front of Abelardo with his hand point directly at the bastards chest he realized his hado, before shouting bankai and instantly pulled his shield in front of him expecting an immediate counter.

The moment Makkuro appeared in front of the released Abelardo, he very quickly realized that he might have acted a bit too hastily in his anger, as his kido was engulfed in a gigantic, molten metal fist of pain. As it was, he barely reacted fast enough to clear distance, the molten metal slamming into where he was a second ago. From his new view, he was able to witness the ground melt and distort, as the metal spread out and hardened. Getting that on you was guaranteed to not end well.
Abelardo was intent on pushing his initiative, sending another stream of blue fire at Makkuro as soon as he landed. Things didn’t go as planned yet again, as the captain moved on with his own plan, releasing his bankai and surrounding the area with high speed winds, blowing the flames into the sky and lighting up the air in a firestorm.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“Just why aren’t you taking me seriously?”
“Because you won’t answer my question.”
Caroline growled in anger, fuming at the situation that she was reduced to; a tug of war with her supposed opponent over her sword! She thought that things were looking up after Rin dragged her in, but after that minor exchange, all that happened was a light slash on her shoulder. Some burns in Rin’s arm, and then the woman went and wrapped her sword up in her whipblade!
“You hate fighting weak people; you only go after people that you think can put up a fight. I find it hard to believe that you actually killed all of those villagers.”
That, and like I said before, those wounds don’t match up with her weapon.
You’re too high-strung Rin, flying off just like that.
Shut up!
“I wouldn’t have had to lie if you would pay attention to the person in front of you instead of getting distracted. Seriously, it’s rude to not give your all to your challenger!”
The second plume of blue fire, accompanied by a raging reiatsu of Makkuro, once again broke up their small fight.
“That feels like the whiny captain. Just how did he get the job anyway, he’s kind of a crybaby.”
“He is not!”
“He was crying rivers of tears because his men got blown up by a giant worm. He’s a baby.”
“No, he’s just new.”

The moment the tiny spark drifted from his fingertips, the Second Division captain vanished as quickly as he had appeared in order to avoid being caught in his own attack. Luckily Makkuro followed suit after Tsuno having already warned to do so, because in only a few moments the spark ignited into a full-blown inferno that swallowed Abelardo and everything around him creating a pillar of flames that reached far into the sky. The arrancar pursued the Third Division captain taking Tsuno's flames with him, damaging many of the remaining buildings in the district who seemed intent on causing as much devestation as possible before the flames destroyed him entirely as his increasing reiatsu was only being gobbled up by the heat of the spell. Tsuno stood back and watched as fire spread, relieved momentarily when he could feel the presence of Abelardo burn away into near nothingness and the fires began to die out themselves only to be extinguished by a sudden burst of energy that overwhelmed the hado. The instant blue flames shot skyward, so did Tsuno's anger that his single most destructive attack did not finish the job, if anything he understood that it only meant that the easy part was over with and the real challenge was beginning and he groaned a sigh of frustration.
"Resurreccion. Son of a bitch."
Abelardo emerged from the flames adorned in grimly skeletal armor dripping molten metal and breathing hot blue flames. A fiery, molten-armored opponent would pose a challenge for the captain who relied almost elusively on either close quarters combat or short-ranged fire-based attacks when stealth and agility were out of the question. He was also very tired from having used that hado, and while using bankai would provide a large boost to the amount of energy he could exert, the fact that he was already fatigued would only put him at a dangerous disadvantage considering that in his experience, resurreccion would provide an arrancar with abundant boost to recharge their stamina that bankai did not for shinigami, which was by far taxing in comparison.
"If you seriously wouldn't mind, I think I will withdraw for now."
Regrouping with Makkuro who had just avoided a rather powerful-looking attack from Abelardo's fist, Tsuno understood the need to rest and trusted his fellow captain's fighting prowess and bankai's abilities even if the arrancar had been underestimating the almost flamboyantly western-looking shinigami so far. Tsuno gave Makkuro his best wishes and informed the fellow captain of his intentions to make a temporary tactical retreat.
"Kido has always been my shortcoming so that last hado took just a bit too much out of me, so please forgive me as I fall back for a breather before I can return with my own bankai. I have absolute faith in your strength, Shiboo, you're a captain of the Gotei 13 after all. Just hold out a little longer, we both have everything worth protecting..."
Tsuno retreated away from the immediate area, though in no way out of the battle if Abelardo was determined to go after him. The rather petite man crouched low to ground, breathing heavier than usual as some of the signs of fatigue were setting in. Sweat soaked his body and a tiny trickle of blood flowed down his ankle and arm from his light wounds. They stung more than anything else, but it was nonetheless annoying that those attacks were able to keep up with him despite his mastery of shunpo and reputation as one of the most agile shinigami in all of Soul Society. He removed his captains' haori and shinigami kosode leaving his upper body covered only by the sleeveless, backless uniform of his rank as Onmitsukido commander which did nothing to hide numerous yakuza-like tattoos that decorated his skin. The cut on his right bicep did not overlap with the fiery eye insignia of his clan, much to the captain's relief, and he was able to calm his racing heartbeat to a regular beat. This arrancar was powerful unlike anything he had anticipated, and it was worrisome that if he had been careless then there was a significant chance that he might have been seriously injured or worse. Death was an everyday occurrence for anyone in his field of employment and he never let his subordinates see him grieve, but he could never avoid the worrisome fear deep down that one day he would screw up and get himself killed. It wasn't dying that bothered Tsuno, but the fact that if he were dead then he would be unable to protect his wife and their soon-to-arrive child, or his beloved subordinates just as he knew Makkuro was fighting to protect his own family-in-arms. Tsuno had to wait just a bit longer to rest so he could help protect what all true warriors in his mind cherished.

Makkuro's eyes flashed as he shoot an instantly charged tsukisasu at the monster aimming for the same space relatively, that Rin had cut earlier, then channeled his reitsu up till it flared and did battle with the creature before him and a vortex of heat and fire spread around him. Makkuro merely smirked at the sign as he stared at Abelardo. Confidence was filling him as he spoke to him.
"Abelardo, I respect your strength and I respect your power as an arrancar. I respect your ability to push aside your emotions in a way I can not and I further respect the wisdom which you have shown to me. However, the sin that you commited against my men is an unbearable crime for a Captain to bear. It was my duty to protect those men and you tore that duty to shreds in mere moments. So you will have to forgive me for this, but I can not allow you to leave this place without some mark of venegence etched into your form or alive. Abelardo, today I will be your executioner and with this sword...I will take your head from your shoulders."
The tornado of their energies bent around Makkuro's blade formed solid as he continued to move about and dodge Abelardo's attacks in his new much slower form.
"Die, Abelardo, die by your own hand and mine...Piston Rooya Tatsumaki."
Immediately the air between the two stopped as they were wrapped in a massive barrier which sealed him and Abelardo into it for the duration of the attack. What remained of the buildings around them were split in half when the barrier came down and Makkuro merely looked down at the destruction about him and thought it was all necessary. Dust was flying up from the ground due to the vacuum of the wind as well as stones which were turning into magma on contact with Abelardo, great chunks of Earth floated about melting and disentigrating as they spin in the fiery hurricane that was starting.
"Abelardo, this will be your grave and possibly mine as well...I have never seen such a violent storm in all my life, especially not one carved from my hand."
Makkuro's hand went to his rapier and with a single slash a thousand tsukisasu flew from his blade firing off and bouncing about the barrier gaining speed and momentum as they went. As they bounced and headed around and around some making paths for Abelardo and others moving all around, Makkuro weaved about them in his own element avoid each with simple grace and dodging any debris that flew his way. He had been inside this chaos so many times that it was second nature to him. Feeling the air waves about him and feeling their weight and heat was like flying to him, like being on a horses back as it galloped at full speed. He felt once more like a knight graceful and gallant in the calm before war. He grinned as his tsukisasu became augmented by the heat of the area making the twister flame up and Makkuro understood that he could not keep himself fully safe in this hellfire that was forming, but the damage to his opponent would be even more devastating this way. Makkuro's eyes then watched his opponent and guaged the reaction, Makkuro himself significantly weaker from this attack, but if that wasn't enough he had another trick up his sleeve and his last resort.
"Tsuno, you keep yourself safe for now, if this attack doesn't work I doubt I'll be much more use to you for the rest of this battle. Please, if I can not take down this brought, make sure you kill him. He should be weakened enough in any event to launch a finishing blow to him as it ends."
Makkuro sent to his fellow Captain as his thought flowed through the kido which his comrade had established. He could feel the connection even now as his bright eyes anaylzed everything about him with a cold satsifaction. He doubted that death would be his reward for what he was about to do, but it could be so he sent back through the line.
"Tsuno, with all these flames going on I might not be able to pull out of this one alive....I ask that you call into the Soul Society and ask them to prepare a burial for me just in case."
The words came out heavy from his own lips and seemed to solidify what he had just gotten himself into. He wasn't just fighting some know nothing Arrancar. He was against something much more than that; this Arrancar was able to handle a Captain easily and in fact two Captains really. No, this was a major threat and there was more than likely more of him spawning every day. The Soul Society was becoming more and more endangered.
"Tsuno, If I die...you have to tell them...You have to let them know what we're up against now more than ever! These Arrancar are strong enough to face two of us, they aren't Horror Vacui or even Espada that we've met. May they be rogues or even not, I don't know...but Tsuno...if this is the caliber or the Arrancar we are facing now, then may God help us all. Tsuno, if I die, you live understand...you finish this bastard if you want, but you damn well better live to see the next day and to let everyone know what happened here."

Abelardo didn’t deign to give the captain’s attack the dignity of him moving; instead, a barrier of flame erupted around him, dispersing the weak attack before it could even get near him and his hierro. Where he aimed for raised some concerns though, he didn’t know just how long that woman’s shikai effect lasted, and wasn’t in the mood to take unnecessary risks. Dying from a lucky headshot because of arrogance would just be too humiliating.
The captain’s words showed that at least, he was starting to grow up and understand the meaning of battle; maybe this wouldn’t be a waste after all. It was pretty interesting watching him try to out-reiatsu him too, but he didn’t feel like a pissing match in that category – he already knew who had the bigger proverbial stick. Sending a few streams of flame to keep him hopping though was perfectly fine, and quite entertaining. If only his release didn’t strip him of those lovely bursts of speed which nearly always caught people off-guard, it would be perfect, but the boosted offense and defense was more than worth it.
Despite his continued silence, deep down, Abelardo was gaining an appreciation of his new opponent; while he seemed to lack attacks that didn’t fall under trying to cherry tap him to death, he was finally fighting him for a proper reason, and he was certainly capable of a surprise here and there – speak of the devil! Their field just had a sudden shift from a wildfire, to a contained barrier. So this is what he meant by him falling by his own hand? Abelardo didn’t get it, the captain couldn’t possibly believe that he would react to things getting a bit hot, could he? In fact, he was quite grateful for the barrier; it meant that the ninja captain had to stay out of things, and he was the one that Abelardo was really worried about; that captain had at least one attack which had enough of an immediate bang to severely harm him, and now that he had no need to keep an eye out for him, he could focus everything on killing his current opponent.
During his internal musing, his current quarry sent out an entire swarm of those wind bullets of his – now Abelardo was just insulted. How many times did the same tactics have to fail before it sunk in that death by a thousand cuts was not going to work on him? Did him blocking sword strikes with his sealed bare hands not register? Or did the captain think that he lost defense as well as speed? Either way, the captain would soon learn.
Interestingly enough, the bullets that were sent his way managed to pierce his wall of fire – thinking about it, it probably had something to do with the wind in this bubble – and make contact with his body. Granted, something with the overall punch of a bala wasn’t going to get any significant reaction out of him, but it was still quite annoying, like an itch that just kept coming back. That, and his firewall was just contributing to the flaming twister building up in the dome, and while getting his own flames blown at him wasn’t going to do anything, fire plus compression of vacuum plus rapid decompression when the barrier fell…..oh this was going to get ugly.
If he was going to get blown up again, he was definitely taking down his opponent with him……what was he thinking? He knew how this was going to end, why not take advantage of it? The captain certainly sounded like he was intending to kill them both in here, but Abelardo had the advantage of a supercharged barrier, a very strong resistance to the fire part of this disaster waiting to happen, and foreknowledge of how bad things were going to get as soon as the dome fell, meaning that he could just run for it – he was slowed down, but he wasn’t a turtle. That in mind, he simply shifted his focus to defense, while amplifying his fire barrier into a gigantic pillar of intense blue fire, the flames crashing into the top of the barrier and rolling down the sides, sending random fireballs raining across the dome. If the captain wanted to play with fire, he was going to get burned bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ten meters from the edge of the barrier…
“Well, didn’t see that coming.”
Rin agreed fully – granted, she was deliberately not taking Caroline very seriously, but a giant dome crashing through the area was a good way to interrupt a fight. The swirling hurricane of blue fire certainly helped.
“Back to more important matters, what is it that you think you’re going to gain by not fighting properly? I’ll just end up killing you without a fight.”
“I’m sure that I can keep you from doing anything major without too much difficulty. As for what I’m gaining, I’m annoying you.”
Such an innocent smile had no place being on such a cruel woman as far as Caroline was concerned. “Fine! You want to know why we went through all this?!”
“There were far less complicated and destructive methods of actually getting my attention.”
“True. We would have just outright sent a letter of challenge to you – I knew your full name after all, and you would have likely come running. The problem was that we were also hired to cause some havoc amongst the shinigami, deal some significant damage. We would have turned it down for being too much trouble, but he offered us something for doing it, whether we actually succeeded or not.”
“Just what could be worth slaughtering an entire district?”
“Something more valuable than anything else in the world to us. I don’t know about Abelardo, but I was willing to swallow my pride and put up with this nonsense. The main goal was to assassinate some captains – the quickest method of actually doing real damage to shinigami. If we got to deal with you along the way, all the better.”
“And no, it’s not the Horror Vacui, we were hired for this before that miniature war you shinigami had with Las Noches. The damage you guys did to yourselves certainly lowered the amount of work we had to do – the death of that vice captain and the mental damage that crybaby captain took was probably enough to be devastating with the state things must be in here. Under any event, I’m sure that you’re going to consider us monsters and go morally righteous, but it’s not as if I particularly care.”
That was mildly more reasonable than slaughtering thousands of people over a grudge. Granted, she of all people really had no right to talk with some of the things she pulled, and she understood Caroline’s ideals enough to move on anyway.
“I can understand your point…but that doesn’t mean that I have to agree with it.” She noted Caroline’s look of confusion, and moved on with a better explanation to save some time.
“I understand the concept of having something important enough to you that you’re willing to do near anything to get it. That said, I can still disagree with you; what you’re doing is directly clashing with my own beliefs. Neither of us will back down, thus it comes to violence.”
Caroline’s smirk came back in full force, as she noted Rin shifting to an aggressive stance. “So you’ll actually fight me seriously? Then I should stop fooling around myself. I know it’s a bit early, but I lack Abelardo’s ridiculous defense and ego. I’ll either push you to bankai, forcing a release, or you’ll close the gap, at which point I highly doubt that you’ll let me release, so pardon me for pumping the gun.”
“Not at all, that’s a very accurate assessment of what I’ll do.”
You were right, the girl was the smart one of the duo.
This should be good.
“Drown, Marina.”
Caroline, and the skyscraper she was standing on, was engulfed by the cyclone of water that materialized from her release.

Makkuro took a deep breathe as the winds whipped around him and he saw the fires spreading rapidly about his tsukisasu's came flying at him, he moved nimble through them predicting the flow of each one like it was second nature to him and sighed as the heat came through and his body controted to let them pass though he felt the burn and the heat increasing. His body was going to be able to handle much of that for long, then one came back and struck the shield on his left hand causing it to heat up rapidly and scold the skin underneath it. He groaned from the pain and grit his teeth to bear it as he knew that hand would be useless for a while at least. As he left the pain subside or rather felt his hand go numb from the burning he continued to move about the dome of the barrier and climbed up to the top and smiled. The barrier was dropping, but the real game was just starting.
"I hope you like speed Abelardo, because your about to get more of it than you can handle! This is my realm and you won't beat me here, especially since the rapidness of the wind here will disperse your flames before they even start!"
What few bullets that were left were ablaze now, but it didn't matter the moment the ceiling of the barrier cracked, the tornado started in a massive black spiral firing upward and engulfing both Abelardo and Makkuro. It felt amazing and fresh to be in it again; after so long, he could feel this rush and the exleration of the wind at his back and the speed that was coming with it. He closed his eyes for a second, then reopened them as the winds blowing at a hundred and fifty miles an hour and claiming swept him away around the top, then began to carry him back down as he flowed the trails. He smiled broadly and began slashing at intervals in the tornado creating, two, then three, then four and now six tsukisasu's in the place before breaking into the middle and letting the bullets in take the strength of the area around them as they swirled about like solid blades ready to tear anyone who didn't know what they were doing in this place apart like rice paper. Makkuro knew what was going on here, could feel the differences in the air and his attacks and knew how to dodge them when necessary, but it was risky for him now. He was bleeding from his chest and skull and covered in burns from the battle. He had restored some of his vitality when he entered bankai, but it wasn't exactly a reset button. He panted for a moment feeling the weight of his body, then grunted and slung himself back into the tornado when he felt it shifting upward and shot himself higher so that he could watch what was going on below and readied himself for anything.
"Tsuno! Keep him from getting out of the tornado no matter what you do! So long as he's in there I can finish him off!" Makkuro shouted out above the tornado to his fellow captain before diving back in and letting his body just get swept along for the ride as thats all it needed for the moment, but he let himself read the speed of the wind as it picked up past two hundred miles an hour and shifted back and forth attempting to tear everything isnide of it to shreds.
