A note from the captain:
There are three types of warriors. First there are those who crave violence and death, the people who live in order to bring the world to it's end. Then there are those who defend peace and honor, the people who live in order to preserve the world as it is. And then there are those who pursue knowledge and progress, the people who live to improve the world we live in. I am one of the warriors who pursue knowledge and progress, because there is no point to living if only to live and die.
I, Daichi Minoru, believe this not as the captain of Squad Twelve or as the chief director of the Shinigami Research Institute, or even as the head of my household. I believe this because I am a living, conscious being able to think for myself and am not ruled by what has been programmed into me by our ancestors.
As a member of Squad Twelve it is expected that you can work either on your own or as a team, it need not matter, as long as you are able to benefit the progress towards a better future for both Soul Society as well as the entire universe as we know it, while constantly striving to increase what we know of the universe we live in.
We as a unit exist in order to study the mission data provided by the other squads and develop new and improved technologies in order to improve the effectiveness of the other squads' assigned tasks, not do their jobs for them. We can only improve what we know needs improvement, so it's the other squad's duties to inform us on what needs to be improved in order for it to be improved. With this in mind I commend the Tenth Squad for being self-reliant, however I still fins it disappointing when they look down on us because they can accomplish more when they forget that they don't have ten other squads who depend on them.
